A 2008 Mock Draft. ie... players to watch this fall.
Just thought all the college football fans might like to know the names of the top players to keep an eye on this fall...
2008 Mock Draft: Round One
Last update: Feb. 24, 2007.
This is obviously an extremely early look at the 2008 Draft for entertainment purposes only. This mock draft assumes the same order as the 2007 mock.
Oakland Raiders: Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
A 2008 Mock Draft in the middle of February 2007? I'm either completely sick or extremely bored. Maybe both. At any rate, if the Raiders don't add a top-notch running back this offseason, they can just easily draft Darren McFadden next April.
Detroit Lions: Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
Jon Kitna is a solid quarterback, but the Lions aren't going to win the Super Bowl with him. They need a franchise quarterback who isn't into caviar and piano lessons. Brian Brohm is currently the top prospect at the signal-caller position.
Cleveland Browns: Chad Henne, QB, Michigan
If the Browns are drafting in the top five, that obviously means that they missed the playoffs. If that's the case, then Romeo Crennel is no longer the head coach. And if that's the case, the Browns will probably be finished with Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson. And if that's the case, Chad Henne will be starting for a team in Ohio. How's that for irony?
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Sam Baker, OT, USC
Anthony Davis isn't the answer at left tackle. If Chris Simms is to have any sort of success in this league, he'll need better protection. I don't think Jon Gruden wants his quarterback's spleen to explode again.
Arizona Cardinals: Jake Long, OT, Michigan
It'll take the Cardinals more than one season to improve their offensive line. How do I know that? Well, they're a bit slow; it took them half a century to finally win a playoff game.
Washington Redskins: Mario Manningham, WR, Michigan
Prized free-agent acquisitions Brandon Lloyd and Antwaan Randle El combined for 55 catches, 716 yards and three touchdowns in 2006. Not exactly what Daniel Snyder was looking for. Washington needs a potent target lining up across from Santana Moss.
Minnesota Vikings: Barry Richardson, OT, Clemson
The right side of Minnesota offensive line just isn't holding up its end of the bargain.
Houston Texans: Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
It's all about playmakers on offense, and excluding Andre Johnson, the Texans just don't have any. Eric Moulds will be approaching his 35th birthday come April 2008, so Houston will need a new No. 2.
Miami Dolphins: Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
Unless the Dolphins use their first-round pick on Alan Branch or Amobi Okoye, they'll probably need an upgrade at defensive tackle.
Atlanta Falcons: Adarious Bowman, WR, Oklahoma State
Another receiver for Mr. Inaccurate. Jerry Rice and Marvin Harrison wouldn't make Michael Vick into a great quarterback; what's Adarious Bowman going to do?
San Francisco 49ers: Kenny Phillips, S, Miami
Mark Roman? Keith Lewis? Excuse me while I heave.
Buffalo Bills: Steve Slaton, RB, West Virginia
The perfect complement to Willis McGahee. The Bills could also go Frank Okam here.
St. Louis Rams: Frank Okam, DT, Texas
If the Rams take a defensive end with their No. 1 pick in 2007, this will be a defensive tackle. And vice-versa. The ineptness of St. Louis' front seven is getting a bit old.
Carolina Panthers: Dan Connor, OLB, Penn State
Carolina's linebacking corps is a mess, but drafting Dan Connor could help out a lot.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Jonathan Goff, ILB, Vanderbilt
James Farrior will be 33 by the start of the 2007 season. It's for the Steelers to find his heir apparent.
Green Bay Packers: Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona
Respectively, Charles Woodson and Al Harris will be 32 and 34 at some point during the 2008 campaign. Antoine Cason could be the future of Green Bay's secondary.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Xavier Adibi, OLB, Virginia Tech
Nick Greisen is the weakest link of Jacksonville's front seven, and needs to be replaced.
Cincinnati Bengals: Early Doucet, WR, LSU
I don't know how much longer Marvin Lewis wants to depend on Chris Henry as an important part of his offense.
Tennessee Titans: Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC
If the Titans don't draft a defensive end in the first round this year -- I have them taking Dwayne Jarrett -- they'll need to select one with a No. 1 pick in 2008. They just couldn't generate a consistent pass rush last season.
New York Giants: Justin King, CB, Penn State
The Giants have had problems at the cornerback position for years. Justin King could be the solution.
Denver Broncos: DeSean Jackson, WR, California
Rod Smith's career is just about finished. DeSean Jackson could be the long-term solution for Denver's recent receiving woes.
Dallas Cowboys: Michael Hamlin, S, Clemson
The Cowboys have two dire needs this offseason: safety and guard. I have them selecting Ben Grubbs with their first-round pick in my most recent mock draft, so that means this will be a safety.
Kansas City Chiefs: Dwight Lowery, CB, San Jose State
Having Ty Law as your starting cornerback is OK, unless you're considering that he's about 500 years old.
Seattle Seahawks: Martin Rucker, TE, Missouri
I think I can safely say that Seahawks fans are looking forward to the day that Jerramy Stevens is no longer the starting tight end on the team.
New York Jets: Fred Davis, TE, USC
The same thing can be said about the Jets and their feelings toward Chris Baker.
Philadelphia Eagles: Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College
Jon Runyan will be pushing 35 by the 2008 Draft. It'll be time for the Eagles to find a new right tackle.
New Orleans Saints: James Laurinaitis, MLB, Ohio State
The fact that Mark Simoneau is starting for any team in this league is a disgrace.
New England Patriots: Tom Zbikowski, S, Notre Dame
The Patriots need a long-term replacement for the aging and injury-prone Rodney Harrison.
Baltimore Ravens: Mike Hart, RB, Michigan
If the Ravens don't find a worthy solution at running back this offseason, they'll just take a runner in 2008.
San Diego Chargers: Will Arnold, G, LSU
One liability that may emerge on San Diego's offensive line is right guard Mike Goff, who just turned 31.
Chicago Bears: Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC
I'd like to see the Bears add more depth at defensive tackle, just in case Tommie Harris gets hurt, or Tank Johnson decides to single-handedly take out both the Bloods and the Crips.
Indianapolis Colts: John Sullivan, C, Notre Dame
Starting center Jeff Saturday will be 33 in June 2008. The Colts may decide to draft his successor two months earlier.
