Bolts clobber the Donks article
Watching the donks self destruct was the best news this weekend.
http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_7112334 Chargers clobber Broncos 41-3 San Diego saddles Denver with its worst home loss since 1966 By Mike Klis The Denver Post Article Last Updated: 10/08/2007 01:51:40 AM MDT San Diego's Brandon Siler, right, gets congratulated by Eric Weddle after Siler scored a touchdown in the first quarter against the Denver Broncos on Sunday at Invesco Field at Mile High. (Post / John Leyba) Outta the way, Broncos. Take a bye. Incredibly, and outrageously, Denver is no longer a Broncos town. The surreal success of the baseball Rockies has been equaled in contrast by the spectacular failure of the football Broncos. In an AFC West showdown each team desperately needed to win, the San Diego Chargers met the challenge by pummeling the reeling Broncos, 41-3, on a gloomy Sunday afternoon at Invesco Field at Mile High. "That's the first time I heard a Rockies cheer from our crowd," Tom Nalen, the Broncos' 14th-year center, said regarding the mocking, "Let's Go Rockies!" chants. "We weren't ready to play. I thought we were. They're a good team regardless of their record. We obviously made them look a lot better than they are." It was the Broncos' worst home loss in 41 years, and their fans reacted by bailing en masse after Jay Cutler threw an interception with 6:16 remaining in the third quarter. "It wasn't easy for us," said LaDainian Tomlinson, the Chargers' star tailback and good sportsman. "It may have looked that way, but they just made a couple mistakes they couldn't recover from and we kept going." While the empty stadium through the fourth quarter left no doubt the fans quit on the Broncos, the buzz in the parking lots wondered if the Broncos quit on themselves. "I don't believe so," Broncos safety John Lynch said. "It may have looked like that, but we didn't play with the greatest sense of urgency like I thought we would, and that's very disappointing." The 2-3 Broncos now begin their bye week with three consecutive losses, the distraction of their star running back Travis Henry facing a possible season-long suspension, a potentially serious biceps injury to Nalen, leg injuries to their star cornerback Champ Bailey and receiver Javon Walker, and zero positive momentum. If there is solace, it's that the Broncos, like 2-3 The Broncos made moves designed to improve their special teams, but kick returner Brian Clark lost the ball when he was hit by the Chargers' Carlos Polk in the first quarter. The play resulted in a San Diego touchdown. (Post / John Leyba) San Diego, are a mere half-game behind 2-2 Oakland for the division lead. The other side of the bye week, though, offers no promises of better days. While the Rockies have the chance to bring the World Series to Denver for the first time, the Broncos have 4-1 Pittsburgh and 4-0 Green Bay up next on their schedule. "I know one thing: We can learn something from the Rockies," Lynch said. "They've been down many times before as a team when a lot of people jump off the bandwagon and stop believing in you. As a team, you have to continue to believe. That's what they did. They kept believing in themselves, and you see what can happen if you do that." Faith in the Broncos, meanwhile, is severely shaken. Never during the Denver Broncos fans cheer during the game against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday at Invesco Field at Mile High. (Post / John Leyba) 13-year Mike Shanahan era had the Broncos played as poorly at home as they did Sunday against the Chargers. This was an utter collapse in all phases on the way to the worst Denver loss since it fell 55-10 to the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XXIV. "I don't know if I've ever been more embarrassed," Shanahan said. Let's begin with the Broncos' return team. All is not well when they're thankful for a touchback. Denver cut Domenik Hixon, its returner in their first four games, earlier in the week and gave Brian Clark a chance in Game 5. On his first return, Clark fumbled the ball into the hands of Chargers rookie Brandon Siler, who returned it 23 yards for a touchdown. At that point, the Chargers had one Post Poll - Broncos at Bye The Denver Broncos entered their bye week with a 2-3 record following three consecutive defeats. Which phase of Denver's game is most responsible for the team's sub-.500 performance this season? Offense Defense Special teams Coaching All of the above offensive possession and a 14-0 lead. The most telling moment in the Broncos' abysmal performance came as the Chargers were trying to run out the clock in the first half. The Chargers were oddly cautious inside the two-minute warning, allowing the Broncos to run down the clock before kicking a field goal for their only score. Then the Chargers called three consecutive running plays after getting the ball back with 1:08 left. Even after Tomlinson rushed for a first down, the Chargers still called a running play with 26 seconds remaining. Much as the Chargers wanted to take a 17-3 lead into their halftime locker room, though, the Broncos wouldn't let them. Backup tailback Michael Turner ran 49 yards to the Broncos' 17. How embarrassing. The Chargers' Nate Kaeding kicked a 45-yard field goal for a 20-3 lead. All is not well with the Broncos' pass defense, either. On the first possession of the second half, three consecutive Chargers penalties left them with a second-and-33. No problem. The Chargers caught the Broncos trying to cover their top wide receiver, Vincent Jackson, with linebacker Ian Gold. Jackson caught a play-action slant from quarterback Philip Rivers for a 45-yard gain. "I'm not going to talk about coverages," Gold said. "As much as I want to, there's no way I'm going to criticize anything about our defensive scheme or anybody out there. I made the tackle. I take responsibility for the play." As this fiasco was occurring, Bailey was on the sideline suffering from a pulled quadriceps. Nor is the Broncos' offense playing well. On their one chance to make it a game late in the first quarter, receiver Brandon Marshall finished off a 26-yard reception to the Chargers' 9 by fumbling the ball away. It was one of three drives that stalled in the red zone. As the sellout crowd at Invesco Field began emptying in the third quarter, Broncos fans entered the bye week with just one thought: Go, Rockies. Mile-high blowout The Broncos' loss to the Chargers was one of their worst at home: |

I am getting worried about that major earthquake that is going to hit California one day with all the Charger fans jumping off and back on the bandwagon.
