1. Matt Ryan QB BC - I hope the Longs go 1, 2 so that Dorsey goes to the Falcons and we get Ryan. If Ryan are Dorsey are off the board, I think we might take Sedrick Ellis over Chris Long and Gholston.
I think the Ryan pick may be the best of the bunch for two reasons: if you're going to go into Total Rebuild, QB is the place you start. Ryan is not only the best QB by a mile in this Draft, he's a potential franchise guy, and the QB selection gets worse next year. 1. Godser Cherilus OT BC - assuming Otah is off the board Would prefer Williams or Harvey, but this isnt' a bad pick. 2. Brandon Flowers CB Va Tech No, no, no. We cannot afford to take Brandon Flowers with anything higher than a 4th rounder if he's still there. MASSIVE character concern. 3. Brian Johnston DE Gardner Webb - I believe the hype Well, you're high on it. That's waaaaay too early for a guy who'll still be there in the 5th. 3. Mike McGlynn OG Pittsburgh Solid. 4. Terrell Thomas CB USC That's a fair pick as well. 5. DJ Hall WR Alabama Again, it's a fair pick. 5. Darius Reynaud WR/KR W. Virginia I'm not really a big fan of drafting a pure KR, and I think Reynaud is too small to succeed in this offense, but it's worth a try I suppose. 6. Cole Bennett TE Auburn I don't see why we'd opt for him this late -- I think Craig Davis in the 5th is more likely. 6. Brandon Coutu K Georgia Ugh. I really don't like any kicker other than Mehlhaff as a Draft pick. Coutu has an incredibly powerful leg but extremely iffy accuracy. I think he melts when the pressure's on, too, but I'm not sure. 7. Mike Cox FB Ga Tech I really don't like drafting a FB either -- you guys understand that we need way too many meat-and-potatoes positions to be dropping picks on dessert options like FB and KR. Gailey doesn't emphasize FBs anyway, and we have three FA no-names that will all duke it out. Why Draft another? 7. Dennis Keyes S UCLA Last pick, so I'm not too concerned, but this is a fair pick. |

I'm beginning to warm up to the idea that we have a shot at Ryan with the #5 pick. Now that I've said that.....Atlanta will probably take him at 3.

I don't know why you're so certain Johnston will be there in the 5th when scouts are telling both Tony Pauline and the guys who run draft daddy that he could go in the 3rd. See the Johnston thread. Obviously none of us know for sure.
You're right about the Flowers concerns. DJ Hall also has major red flags. I think both players would go higher if not for their problems. It's hard to judge on guys like that. |

are you assuming Williams would be gone by #17, or just prefer Cherilus?

ditto
if we're rebuilding we have to roll with a franchise QBOTF...it gives focus to everything you do, and provides a focal point for the fans..

I'm assuming he's gone. Probably to the Bears. He's definitely a better left tackle prospect, but I think the Chiefs really like Cherilus because he's the mauler type they're looking for and our OL coach's brother was his OL coach at BC. I also think McIntosh was pretty good at LT when healthy, but it was the right side of the line that was an unmitigated disaster.
