New Policy for Americans

I think that we, as citizens, need to step up to the plate. It is fine to talk about what the govt. should do... or to go out and donate blood.... but a VERY effective way to stop this crap would be to not ever allow someone to think that they could get away with it.

If EVERY man, woman and child was willing to stand up and sacrifice themselves to stop this... it would stop.

I for one have a new pledge... whether I am in an airplane, at the airport, or wherever... I will make an effort to stop any possible terrorist action.

I know what some people may be thinking... that this is a reckless attitude or that it's easier said than done. BUT if every terrorist in the world knew that they would have to FIRST kill everyone onboard a plane BEFORE they could take could take control... I doubt that we would see as many hijackings.

At most a few brave people would die before the rest of the mob tore the idiots to pieces.

I know that it is VERY easy to say this and MUCH harder to follow through... but I pledge now to do my best should the occasion arise. If we can get enough people to feel and act accordingly... maybe we can't add a little preemptive deterence.

You can bet your a$$ that if Bob Dole had been a passenger on one of those planes hijacked today one of two things would have happened.

Either they wouldn't have reached their destination, or Bob Dole would have been dead at their hands before impact.

The only detail Bob Dole has heard so far indicated that one of the airliners was taken with knives.

Kyle - Actually, it is quite intelligent.

The Israelis have a similar policy with kidnapping. Those that cooperate with kidnappers are imprisoned - no deals whatsoever. Needless to say, Israel suffers fewer kidnappings than most other nations.

If I were on that plane and suffering immenent death, I would gladly attempt to stop the hijackers, by any means necessary.

However, I am assuming after the takeovers that the hijackers lied and said that all would be freed afterwards - keeping hope alive and reducing the chance of attack from the innocent citizens.

Bob - I am assuming that your scenario is a distinct possibility for the failed flight that crashed in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, even with black boxes, we will never know for sure.

God bless all involved in the loss of life today.

I still can't believe that a cabin filled with 90 some-odd passengers was taken by knife wielding barbarians.

John - It is possible, but it involves much training, and many participants. It wouldn't surprise me to see at least 3 - 4 terrorists on each flight working in tandem.

The training had to be intensive and detailed to work on 4 separate flights. You of all people should recognize military work at hand.

And where there is trainers there is witnesses, cooks, people who own land and homes, and people nearby who know of their existence. 100% of those involved must pay the piper.

I have always maintaned this attitude, but I always figured it was because i was a reckless youth. Glad to see some adults who think the same way.

That doesn't mean that I would just jump up as they started there takeover, not my style. I would if the situation forced it, but my style is to be sneaky and look for opportunities. Obviously today there wasn't much time for that. But I would do something, what is the worse that can happen? I get killed? Like that isn't what is going to happen anyway.

---"What do I tell the pilot to do?" a frightened Olson pleaded.---

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll make that pledge---I'm damn sure not going to be herded into the back of a plane on a suicide mission.

I hope I will be able to make the choice to go stop their actions or die trying.

Not claiming to be a hero---just a man who would prefer to survive or at least die with dignity.

A passenger managed to reach her husband on her mobile phone moments before American Airlines flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon.

Barbara Olson, a commentator for CNN and wife of US Solicitor General Theodore Olson, was one of 58 passengers on the Boeing 757.

They had been herded to the back of the plane along with the four flight attendants and two pilots.

In two brief and furtive conversations with her husband, Olson, 46, gave a few details about the plane's hijackers, CNN reported.

She mentioned that there was more than one, but the only weapons she described were knives and cardboard cutters, the network said.

"What do I tell the pilot to do?" a frightened Olson pleaded.

Theodore Olson was able to alert the Justice Department's command centre of the hijacking in progress, but it was too late to help his wife and the other people aboard the plane.

They were all killed when the airliner smashed into the Pentagon

I think you all are assuming that the terrorists were honest with their actions and informed the passengers of their intentions.

I sincerely doubt they did so. They lied and said all would be well if they would just cooperate. People grasp at straws to take hope anywhere.

I don't care what they tell me, I take my country's view on terrorism - I don't deal with 'em. They could promise me anything i don't give a damn. They are bad guys who must be brought to an end, and i would whatever i could, little that it might be, to help out the authorities.

Who could actually trust someone crazy enough to hijack a plane anyway? If they're willing to take that risk, they don't care whether they live or die.

So go after them... fight. Sacrifice if need be. but go down fighting.

I'm still worried that these nuts will target LA next...

I agree. I'm not usually the bravest of the bunch, but knives certainly aren't guns. 4 guys with knives versus 90 people? Not to make light of the situation, but that sounds like a typical bar fight back at Bootleggers. I imagine that's what happened in Pennsylvania. What do you suppose that plane was headed for? The Statue of Liberty? The White House?

Speculation is Camp David, but I have heard the WH mentioned as well.

Hader - To be honest, the White House would be a lucky shot in the dark. It is heavily defended by many G to A missiles. I would have thought that the Senate or the House would have been a more likely target.

Think we'll see reimplimentation of Sky Marshalls on all airlines (plain clothes law enforcement officers who are armed).

Pretty confident that plastic knives won't hold up against 9mm.
