Lions Having Curry for dinner

Schefter reporting that the Detroit Lions higher ups are all having dinner with Curry tonight. They also had dinner 2 nights ago with Stafford.

Pretty much a non-story since obviously nobody would consider a LB this high as it is a position of little value.

The Lions hired Gunther away from Kansas City.

Think about that.
Think about how stupid they are.

That's ironic. I also had Curry for dinner last night. It's great on chicken.

Unless they think they have a trading partner a couple of spots down the board.

There could be something brewing with them and Cassell. Maybe they trade their other first rounder for him and then trade back a few spots and pick Curry.

I would think they would want to do the QB/LT thing in the 1st if they can. Maybe their packaging the later 1st round pick instead...Who knows? I know this, their probably scared as hell to screw this up!

I could envision a scenario in which the Lions trade the lower of their first round picks for Cassell and then trade their first overall pick to the Chiefs for the our first 3 picks or our first 2 picks this year and our second rounder next year.

From there, the Lions could draft Curry number 3. If they really want a LT, they would have plenty of ammunition to move up into the late first round and grab Oher. There has been a glut of talent at LT the last 2 drafts (this year and last year), so at least one of the premier LTs will likely slide.

If the Lions do something like this, they could wind up with their franchise QB, the best defensive player in the draft, and a cornerstone LT. It won't happen, but it would be interesting to watch.

I don't see the Chiefs trading up...

I would probably start a petition to re-hire Carl Peterson if we traded our 1st,2nd, and 3rd round picks to move up 2 places in the 1st round.

That's fair value based on the draft board. If we are convinced that Stafford is the next great NFL QB, we would have to make that move and never look back.

I stand by my origional statement. There comes a time when "fair value" really isn't. This is one of those times IMO. One of the equations in my opinion is that absolutely nobody believes that Stafford is "the next great NFL QB." He's merely the best of an average lot - not worth 3 draft choices.

If Stafford isn't that guy, then that's a different story, and he isn't worth it. If Pioli believes that he is that guy, you do whatever it takes.

If you truly believe that a QB is the next Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, you trade your entire draft and naming rights to the stadium if that's what it takes.
