What do you think of the Turner Gill hire?

Safe hire. Easy hire, IMO. Not impressed but not disappointed.

It was their 3rd choice. Still a decent hire. I think he will be able to recruit, but I question his ability to be a good Big 12 caliber coach due to lack major conference head coaching experience.

Neither Mangino or Gary Pinkel had major conference head coaching experience, and those are the guys Turner Gill should be compared with.

Not Jim Harbaugh.

From reading comments on kusports.com, it looks like a lot of fans are coming around.... a couple of days ago half the comments were "20-30 OMGBBQ!"

I agree that it's a safe or easy hire... it's not the slam dunk, but it's Kansas football and it's not like a safe hire equates to a bad or mediocre head coach; it could just as well mean that it's a steal.

I like the hire... haven't heard the intro speech yet, but will listen to it later. I think he can do good things for the program.

Turner had a 20-30 record at Buffalo.
Pinkel had a 73-37-3 record at Toledo.

I like Gill, but his record does not compare well to GP. His staff of experienced coaches should really help, though.

I don't think he's an upgrade over Mangino, but I do think he was probably the best pick of what was available.

I think Gill will do fine at KU. The fact that he was able to have any success at a death trap like Buffalo tells me that the dude can coach.

He didn't have a great mentor like Don James to learn from either.

I suppose that is true, although you would think Tom Osborne was a decent mentor.
