I think DV should return next season

I was on the bandwagon for him to move on but the players love him and we have seen them play at a higher level the last three weeks. I have no doubt alot of that is DV's faith in them and the respect he gives them. Maybe I'm nuts and it's just the health of the players but the defense has definitely pick up the pace with Gun pumping them up but we just spent serious cash on this team and if DV walks so will the good offense we have.

Find the best replacements for Roaf and Shields that you can, Priest can back up Johnson. Keep Trent for one more go.

Roaf and Shields have to stick it out one more year... I know... wishful thinking.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I want DV gone. It is time for some youth. Both on the coaching side as well as the players.

Unless we tank the rest of the year we should all want him back. If we finish 10-6 and miss the playoffs I think he should still return. We damn sure had better keep Gun no matter what DV does.

I'm leaning towards wanting him to still leave but I will reserve final judgement till AFTER the season.

I could see us winning 3 of the next 4 or losing all 4. Nobody should want him back if we tank the next 4 games.

Let's finish the season first.

Why should we all want him back? He has made the playoffs once. He has not won a playoff game. He makes stupid coaching decisions (look at the 2 series for Priest one for LJ). His players complain of fatigue with his marathon practices. For me he is too old. His best days are behind him.

The ONLY way I would want him to stay is if Roaf and Shields are locks to return next season. Our offense is really starting to hit it's stride and if we were to make it far into the playoffs and lose then it shouldn't be time for a major change. Not to mention that the defense should be great next year, yes thats right, I said great. Draft another CB or DL and I think we would be set to have a great defense. Who'll be out there in FA is also gonna be interesting.

I think LJ should start and get most of the carries next season and Priest should come in on 3rd down or when LJ needs a breather, simliar to the Marshall Faulk role in STL. Let's face it people, Priest is/was a FANTASTIC running back, maybe one of the best ever even though I doubt he'll make the HOF, but the guy is just too injury prone to really count on for an entire season. We were lucky to have someone like him as a person who is very humble and modest when it comes to team personality. He was a good example to the community and a class act. I mean the guy literally kept signed jerseys and cards in his car so if people saw him in public he would go and give them something if they asked for it. I know this simply b/c one of my friends got the opportunity to meet him at a car repair shop. There arent many people in the NFL that would do that.

If we could sign a good RG or RT to give Shields some rest would be a good thing IMO. I thought I heard somewhere that Reggie Wayne is gonna be a FA this next season and I must say that I would LOVE to see him in red and gold, though I could be wrong.

DV doesn't really seem like he's burned out or anything. He almost looks fired up as he has been since he's been here. He's a football coach, he loves the game, he lives for the game and if we make it to the playoffs and go deep into them, I think he comes back on the fact that we're really close to becoming a superbowl team. Now, should we win the SB, yes I think he should retire based on theres nothing else he needs to play/coach for.

PS - When it comes to ANY defensive players, schemes, situations, DV should not be allowed to have a say on anything. Let Gun be almost like another HC but leave him to coach the defense without the say of DV. IF this all happens, let DV stay.

I have read on here several times about these long practices and people complaining he is too soft. I can not remember ever reading where a player complained about the practices, maybe I just missed it. I wonder which it is, I can not see how it can be both.
1) Too long of practices
2) Too soft

Actually I would love to have him back, with Al Saunders being my second choice but most will disagree with me on that.

I find it amazing that anyone wouldn't want DV to return. Look at all the incompentent tool head coaches out there...How many good ones are there? Very few.

And by "youth" do you mean new QB, LT, WR, RG in addition to an entirely new coaching staff? Because if so, that means years of waiting and I want no part of that. I've seen "youth" that takes way too long and I'm not ready to tear apart the house that Dick built in the hopes that the "youth" King Carl selects will be good enough to get us where we already know DV is capable of getting us.

Buffalo, Detroit, Minnesota, Houston, Baltimore, New Orleans and I'm sure I'm leaving some out, but the point is, do you really think they are better off than we are? Minnesota is the only one in the hunt and they didn't get there until a veteran 37 year old QB came into the picture.

Sure, we need new players to replace some aging vets, but it astounds me when people want to get rid of what works and right now, this works.
Our coaching staff on offense is second to none, our staff on defense is just now starting to gel and I don't want to change schemes there or on our record setting offense any time soon.

We need to go bargain shopping in the offseason for a WR, pass rusher and to find an eventual replacement for Trent. There will be a few available who were well regarded coming out of college that have been in the wrong system that might pan out (Ramsey, Harrington, Carr, Rivers). I say bring in whoever is available, interview the hell out of them, study their COLLEGE & pro game tapes and see which one will work best. This offense isn't ideal for all QB's or WR's, it just takes the right ones. Did anybody think Green, Kurt Warner or Mark Bulger would be capable of running this sofisticated of an offense when they came out of college? No, otherwise they'd have been drafted in the first round. The same goes for WR's.

Our coaching strategies are not flawed, they are capable (with the right players) of being the very best, so I don't care to change them. Just bring in the right talent to continue to advance what we've already accomplished.
People can bag on Bill Cowher, Tony Dungy & Marty all they want, because they haven't won the big one, but they were in the hunt every year and I'd much rather be in that situation than hoping that the "youth" might, someday, maybe, hopefully, pretty please God I'm begging you, get us there.
Common sense says that if you are in the hunt every year, your odds are much better than being in the hunt if you keep changing over your coaching staff & players.

By youth I don't mean the entire team. Trent still has one or two more years in him, but we need to look to the future. Shields is done after this year and most likely Willie Roaf as well. We need to draft a stud LT 1st pick. DL is another area of age.

Other than his overall health & that of his players, two more things I think will factor in to his decision to return or not:
1) Schedule if it sucks, it'll be a long year and he has said repeatedly that schedule is a big factor in making the playoffs.
2) Probably not a big factor, but he is on the verge of becoming one of the top 20 all time winningest coaches. He and Shanahan both have 116 wins. Marty is already #9, Parcells # 11, Gibbs # 14, Cowher #15, Holmgren # 17. DV needs 10 combined regular & post season wins to pass Jim Mora & 12 to pass Ditka.

We agree on the LT, that is where I want our 1st rounder to go, if God willing there is a good one within reach. DL isn't that old, Hicks just turned 29, Carlos Hall 26, Sims 25, Allen 23, Wilkerson 24, Siavii 27. Only Dalton 30 & Browning 32 are on the wrong side of 30. But we do need a pass rusher and thats why I'm pimping Kalimba Edwards, 7 sacks as a backup pass rusher. Something tells me Robert Mathis and his 11 sacks won't be leaving Indy, even though he is a free agent. It seems like Kyle Vanden Bosch is a FA and he's managed to get 10.5 on a lackluster Titan's team.
