Music Satellite Radio

I'm looking for feedback both good/bad "love it"/"it sucks" on what Chiefs Planet thinks about satellite radio (XM/Sirius). How good is the reception, can you still get a signal in a typical office building, do you enjoy the music/talk/sports/etc channel selection available?

The reason I looked into XM in the first place is because the Royals are going to be off the air this season in Des Moines (and I wont have to worry about not getting the chiefs next season either). As I looked into it more, XM seemed to be cool enough to keep all year, but I have no experience with it beyond the obviously-biased sales pitch they throw at you.

(I didnt post this in the multimedia board because this seems to be more of a "product review" type of question than a "this game/movie/song" is cool topic)

we tried Sirius last year and were underwhelmed. Much like cable tv, there's a lot of channels, but most are filled with shit.

I struggled to find a channel (or even 2 or 3) that satisifed me.

maybe, maybe it would be more useful for those travelling a lot, who don't want to station hop or hit dead zones.

had Sirius for 5 years, bought a new vehicle and got XM with best of Sirius package and I love it. Tons of talk stations, comedy, college sports...
I only listen in the car. I guess office reception would depend on repeaters in the area, butmine goes out in the garage, so I doubt it would work in an office well.

However, I think you can listen to most channels online if you have an account.

I've had Sirius goin on 3 years now. I will NEVER go back to the SHIT known as FM radio. The NFL channel alone is enoght to fork out $14 a month. I also enjoy the hard rock/metal channels. Don't even get me started on the pathetic state of rock stations on FM. Sirius is the cat's pajamas.

Very true......

I had about 3 or 4 channels that I stuck with. But, the reception is great.

Again, very true......

It's more useful on long trips. You never have to find a new station to tune in to. If I was a salesman and in my car a lot, I might subscribe again.

I'll second this, even if what mikey says is somewhat true. The music stations do mix up the songs a bit, but even they get stuck in these cycles where they play the same songs over and over. Sitius has a wide variety of talk, and NFL Radio is the shit. Never done the XM package, so I can't give that a review.

Terrestrial radio sucks baows.

I've had it 3 years now and it's awesome. Occasionally stations will get caught in a rut but if you email and complain (chances are if you notice it others have) then they usually right the ship pretty fast and break up the rotation.

There is the option to listen online (slightly more now) so you don't have to worry about office reception.

I've had it for about five years and love it. Never have to channel surf for stations that play the music I like. Get to listen to NFL news around the clock if I want to. News Radio, sports radio, comedy, and every genre of music. Basically I have whatever I want whenever I want it right at my fingertips. What's not to like?

I've been a Sirius owner for almost 10 years now. I could kick myself for not paying the $400 lifetime membership when I had the chance.

I got it when living in Colorado. I took weekend trips up to the mountains and it was perfect for those long drives. It was even better when I relocated to Florida and had uninterrupted music, news, and talk stations all the way through.

It's worth it if you're a music lover. You'll never hear half-hour long songs on your local radio. You'll never hear obscure music on your local radio stations.

Add in the fact that I get NFL talk, games, and news 24/7, then it is quite possibly the best thing I've ever bought.

When my receiver crapped out a couple of years ago, they replaced me with a new one, including installation for free.

I use my Sirius Stiletto at work, while I am flying, etc. The recording feature on it is almost exactly like TiVO, which is a very nice addition.

If you live in a radio station deprived area, buy, buy, buy.

I am an audiofile and I HATE the tinny (compressed) music sound quality. It will do a good job if you are a listener that doesn't care.
