Cassel and it's not even close. Weis better get this boy whipped into shape or it will be another long season because while our D is improved, it still has a long way to go.

Don't mistake this take for a defense of Cassell. He is a poor QB that is clearly struggling. Not many people (if any) have ever denied that. But there are a few things last night that were good and telling:
1. Dlifer was correct in saying that one of the hardest roles a QB can have is playing the role of game manager. The run, run, pass funk that KC fell into does not endear confidence in your QB or get him into any rythym. Now, is a rain game in which you are leading by 14 the time to loosen the QB up? Probably not. But this cannot be the theme for this offense if they expect to grow this year. Haley/Weis made there bed by going with Cassel and they have to trust him at least a little. 2. Cassell does have nice ball-handling skills in the play action. The second TD 'drive' showed this. After last night, I can't imagine teams not stacking the line pretty regularly. KC must exploit this. 3. Charles is your feature back, Haley and Jones is the spell back. Once you discover this, your offense will run better because defenses will be on edge because of teh homerun threat in the backfield. 4. KC had zero turnovers last night in the rain and very few penalties. That played no small part in the win. Is this due to the lack of Cassell throwing the ball? Probably. But the time of possesion difference almost did cost them the game. First down conversions must improve. I can't beleive this team is having the same problems as a Herm-led offense of 3 years ago.

Who subbed in for injured Brandon Flowers? Just curious because I didn't hear his name, which is a good thing, I think.

I'm trying to like Cassel as much as I can. There's no doubt he has the physical ability to be QB, I'm just not convinced he has the instinct.

Why is it on some plays Cassels arm strength looks ok (he did throw a few deep balls last night that looked ok, although not accurate) and other plays his arm looks dead (the first pass of the game that Bowe had to wait on). Or was that just the driving wind?
Is it just me, or does his release look different at times? |
