Football Do you ever wonder if it's worth it?

After an exhausting Saturday of watching the Razorbacks play through two rain delays, I started pondering fandom.

Back when Trent was playing, the wife and I had no choice but to follow everything that was happening. We lived and died on Sundays. A loss or poor game would basically ruin my week until the following Friday, at which point I'd really stop dwelling on the past and start looking forward to the future. A good game, while a mood elevator, wouldn't really have a proportionate positive effect as a loss.

When Trent started playing less and less, we stopped following football as much and started enjoying having our Fall back to do other things. Eventually, though, we decided to start really following the Razorbacks because we felt there was a vacuum in our weekend (and she was born and raised on football, so doesn't really know what else to do with the Fall), and we're contemplating getting season tickets so our kids can be raised tailgating and enjoying football like she was.

On Saturday, though, I began to wonder if I really want to become a fan (as in a fanatic) again. I was screaming at the TV. Throwing shit. Stomping around the house. Cussing like a sailor. Basically acting like an idiot. At the end, the Razorbacks won... but I didn't really feel elated. I was just exhausted. It didn't make my night better. It didn't make my weekend better. If we would have lost, though, it would have completely ruined my night and weekend.

Is there help out there for people like me who, when they become a fan, live and die by their teams? Are there others who suffer from the same syndrome, or do I just need to get a grip?

Edit: I realize the Chiefs are on a roll and people are feeling positive about the team... so this may be poor timing for this post.

I scratch to win. Chiefs included. Sometimes you win from the bottom, sometimes you win on top. As long as you go is all that counts.

Its definitely not worth the sick feeling that acompanies a loss on Sunday that usually takes about 6 days to recover from. But, as far as I know there is no known cure. I have learned to live with this disability.

I've tried to tone down my temper during the game and I'm getting better at it. To me there's a nobility about sticking it out with the teams you grew up going to games and watching. That's something that bandwagon fans will never understand. That being said it's important to have other passions and things going on in your life to balance things out.

When i was younger i used to throw stuff at the tv, and shout, and curse, etc....

Ive calmed down alot. Maybe its my age, maybe its my kids, maybe its maturity....who knows?

Mostly i think, ive begun to realize there is more to life than what happens during a football game. But i can smypathize with how you feel certainly.

Yeah, I'm a little over hype during the game.

That being said, my main issue is that a win doesn't make me feel as good as a loss makes me feel bad. Maybe that's because the Razorbacks haven't pulled out the big wins this year. Beating 'bama or Auburn would have been a big deal. Watching Ole Miss play us competitively for 5 hours just made me tired.

I asked myself the same question last Sunday after the Texans ripped my heart out of my asshole.

I just hope we win it all some-day so watching this team the past 20 years pays off big. I'm fairly confident once we're hoisting that Lombardi I'll forget all about the shitty Sundays and subsequent weeks of torture I've had to endure.

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from.

I'm legitimately depressed and upset for at least that Sunday, if not the following week when we lose. When we win, I just sort of shrug it off and move on. I'm only happy for a few hours max. Although I had a perma-grin plastered on my face after than MNF game for a couple of days.

Watching a game on television doesn't even come close to the highs and lows you feel while attending a game. I think if you have a tough time conducting yourself in a civilized manner while watching the game on television, you may want to stay away from the stadium.

This.. minus the age, kids, and maturity.

I watch and enjoy for what it is - entertainment. But I no longer allow it to ruin my day/night/weekend/week.

During - and at - games I'm still into it as ever, but once it's over I let it go.

In short, yes.

I saved my time off this year to take off on sundays and watch the Chiefs.

No real reason to. I hated our draft, hated our HC, and hated our QB. We hadn't sniffed a .500 season in years. It looked like another year of SD owning the division and a huge blowout to Denver and the tougher teams on our schedule.

Faith is a wonderful thing. It's what allows you to endure 300 $3itty days in a row until 301 allows you to say "I TOLD YOU SO MOTHER****ER! I-****ING-TOLD-YOU!"

I am glad to know that I am not the only nutball that goes postal everytime it looks like the Chiefs are going to find a way to lose a game. Sometimes I have to just hit the pause button on the DVR and take a 10 minute time out to calm down. If I was a Charger fan I think I would have blow my brains out after they did so many stupid things to lose thier game yesterday.
