Anyone hear Bill Maas yesterday?

I honestly don't think this guy watches the games.

I sat in my car yesterday listening to him go off on people who were bashing Cassel. He was furious because he claimed that the offensive line was the problem, not the QB. When someone called in and said that that offensive line was the same line that was producing the 3rd best rushing attack in the league, he basically said bullsh*t. That if the line were that good then Cassel would be great.

His (almost) exact words were, "If we have the 3rd best rushing attack, then we should have the 2nd or 3rd best passing attack. I could put you (referring to Shaun Sharif (sp)) back there and have success off play action passing."

He then went on to say that the reason we were running screens and reverses is because we have an offensive line that can't block, so we have to go with misdirection to cover up the blemishes.

Aside from the fact that I only remember running one screen yesterday and zero reverses, here we have a former defensive lineman who's absolutely clueless about the offensive line. The 2001-2005 Chiefs teams, with arguably the best O-line in the game at the time, ran basically nothing but screens and misdirection plays.

He might be the biggest Cassel apologist I've heard. Though, he was also the guy that said during training camp that this team would be scoring around 30 points per game and that "they'll need to because the defense is going to be giving up 30 points per game."

He's a coke-addled meathead, why would you take anything that he has to say even remotely seriously?

Ex-players are often the worst sources to go to for a lot of this information. Case in point, John Hannah, who when doing a podcast with Bill Simmons a month ago claimed that the running game was far more sophisticated and difficult to install than the passing game. Granted, he has a point, because if you look at 8 year old football, you see nothing but Air Coryell all over the place, and the vast majorities of high schools don't just run the option or a Power I 90% of the time.

He also said during camp that Croyle would go on to have a successful career as a starter in the NFL once he left KC.

Kietzman & Petro must have been listening to him because they are agreeing with him.

I guess I don't take him that seriously, but it's still infuriating to listen to stupidity in the wake of a loss. What made it worse was how pissed he was getting about it. I ended up changing the station when he said the reasons we were running "all those screens and reverses" was to cover up for a poor offensive line.

I wanted so bad to call in and bring up 01-05, but I probably would have gotten into a wreck.

I feel you. Again, it's another example of how status does not make the opinion invaluable.

Well there you go. There's that, and the fact that he's a pretty unintelligent person. Put the two together and you've got the ingredients for a really bad and uninteresting show. But hey, I'm sure his Mother loves him, so he's got that going for him...

Quite true.

Which reminds me, Maas kept trying to big-time the callers.

I agree with his point about the o-line, but I would call them average. We have gotten some breaks and had some running plays called at just the right time that makes it look better than it is. I am sure Bill would agree that some of it is on the running backs, they do the best with what they got to work with.

Just like Matt.

Matt just has no pocket presence so it makes everything look worse then it is. Dude will run when he has time, he will stay in the pocket when he doesnt have time. He panic's way to easy.

Matt just sucks. Oline has been playing fine. There are plenty of teams that dont have good offensive lines, but because they have a QB that knows what he's doing, they are fine.

Again, Cassel is just terrible.
