The 63-year-old president of the United Arab Emirates also ensured his name would not be washed away by approaching tides, instead making the letters into waterways which absorb incoming water.

Hamad has a fortune in the billions of dollars and is often referred to as the "Rainbow Sheikh".

He is known for his extravagant purchases — including his 200-strong car collection with seven Mercedes 500 SELs painted in the colours of the rainbow, his custom-made, four-bedroom truck and his motor home built in the shape of the world, which is exactly one millionth the size of the globe.

He is a member of the Abu Dhabi Ruling Family and is also heavily involved in medical charities.
