Late Night BS: Nineteen Eighty Four
Just happened across my copy of this book and it brought a lot of thoughts back. I skimmed through the book and it was refreshing and frightening. I thought First I would ask how many have actually read the book (or watched the movie for those that don't read)?
For those that have read it how much of what we see today (in the last 20 years) do you think the book was spot on? Forget about party politics - I really don't want to see this go to DC but I would like an honest discussion about Newspeak and doublethink. I think that technology has brought us into the "newspeak" era where large swaths of people from all walks of life can't type or write in the proper grammar sense and to me that is amazingly alarming. Forget about punctuation I'm talking about not being able to spell even the most basic words or use them properly in a sentence. As far as doublethink goes there have been several things in the media (both conservative and liberal run stations) in the past couple of years that seemed to make certain circumstances seem black instead of white or white instead of black. I'm not sure this is as much "government" as it is "the top 2%". Anyway thoughts? lets try and keep it party neutral and gentlemen like!! |
