Yes just the tip. You never know what those women might have. Sounds fun though.

I spent five days in Tamarindo in May and absolutely loved it. It's what Cabo was probably 80 years ago.

Yes. Went this summer in July. Rainy season, but it was kind of awesome to be honest with you. Some crazy rain storms. Monteverde was incredible. You have to stay at this place. Doesn't look like much from outside, but fantastic inside. Looks like a spa. Very affordable as well.
We also went to Arenal Volcano, which was pretty cool hiking up to it. We visited some beach towns on the Pacific side. Dominical was the best. If you are looking to see a lot of wild life, then the gulf side is the best place. Up more toward the north side of CR.

The gf and I (by that I mean, the gf) booked an AirBNB in Atenas for the 1st three days. Not my choice to stay so close to San Jose, but that leaves us needing to plan day excursions from there.
Wanted to visit Monteverde, and the B&B Bowener rec'd looks awesome. Second half of the trip we wanted to do a spa/resort on the Pacific. Looking at Punta Islita or San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua but am open to suggestions. |

I was there in 2006, because my dad had the whacky idea of buying some land there. So, I am part owner of 7 acres with teak trees growing on it in one little village and 5 acres in another. Anyhow, I liked the country, but the roads sucked and the bridges were horrifying. The local beer sucked, too. The food was good but oddly unremarkable, except for the fruits which were exceptional. What I mean is, nothing really stood out as "Costa Rican" like Mexican food does. They eat black beans with every meal. I did enjoy a hike through a forest, heavily covered in insect repellent which is a must. I also took a day tour through the various regions of rain and cloud forests to Arenal Volcano. I liked the resort where you could get into the stream and it was like a hot tub since the water was heated by the volcano. Seeing streams of orange lava flow down the volcano at night was wild.

Secrets Papagayo. Its a bit pricey but its adults only and nice and secluded, not commercial at all. It was completely remodeled and reopened early this year. Its all pretty much brand new. http://www.secretsresorts.com/papaga...FYuKaQodNOsIHg |

On the pacific side I highly recommend the White water rafting, its fantastic. There is also the sketchiest 1/4 mile long water slide in existence. I literally thought I might die on it.
