I had a tough time on this one, because it came down to four players: Stabler, Long, Riggins, and Sayers. I also considered Stenerud from a positional standpoint and Lewis from a murder and ego standpoint, but they made the cut.
When I look at my four finalists for least deserving, I ended up with: 1. John Riggins. If you want into the Hall of Fame, you have to have earn more than 3.9 yards per carry. The guy got his "fame" from the Redskins, and in nine seasons he averaged 3.8 yards per carry. Come on. 2. Howie Long. Anyone can thrive if they cheat and take cheap shots. 3. Ken Stabler - 27,000 career yards and more interceptions than touchdowns. He's 10th highest in the 1965 to 1989 time frame (his career plus and minus ten years), and 10th in touchdowns. That's more productive than I would have guessed, but I watched the guy play and he wasn't elite. I strongly considered Gale Sayers given his short career, but I'll give the guy credit for a 5.0 ypc on a weak team. He was a poor man's Jamaal Charles.

Here's another argument against John Riggins. He played behind an offensive line that was famous at the time. The Hogs. They were feted in the media, and Joe Jacoby was generally seen as the best left tackle in the league. For bizarre reasons Russ Grimm is in the Hall of Fame. And yet John still couldn't average 4.0 yards per carry?

John Riggins made the pro bowl one time in thirteen years.
John Riggins was named an all pro one time. He averaged 3.6 yards per carry that year.

Ray Lewis - while the man was a beast on the field, I would never vote a guy into the HOF that helped cover-up a murder

I voted against (or for, depending on your point of view) for the Snake, Long, and Riggins. First of all, the 1st 2 played for the Raiders, so they'd have to be spectacular and neither were. Long was a cheap shot artist. I kind of hated to vote for/against Riggins simply because he was a KU guy, but Rain is right, 3.9 YPC isn't HoF worthy. Besides, he played for Andover, Md. and they are my NFC Faiders.
