www.chiefsplanet.com (my favorite website) has always come in clutch for me when life throws me a curveball, and I suspect this time will be no different.

I went to a new bank today as I was looking to open a new savings account. I've probably had a total of 3 different bank accounts in my life, and each time the process has went smoothly.

Well today, after submitting all of my information to this new bank, they come back with a paper from ChexSystems that says my request for a new account has been denied.

I sit there with what I imagine is a "WTF is happening" look on my face for a minute and tell the lady helping me I don't understand what's happening. She tells me that's all the information she has, and to go to the website or call the number provided.

I go to the website and run my report. Everything looks totally fine. I decide to drive to my current bank, and tell them what's going on. I get to talk to the manager, who looks a little more into the system, sees that there is nothing negative on my report, and tries to open a savings account through my current bank. I am once again denied.

The manager now has the same "WTF is happening" look on her face that I had earlier. She says she doesn't understand what's happening, but she's happy to go ahead and open the savings account for me anyway. I tell her that I'll do this, but I still want to find out what the problem is.

I call the Chexsystems number, get someone who doesn't speak English very well. I'm pretty frustrated at this point, and they end up being no help at all.

Anyone have any idea what could be wrong, or how I go about fixing it?

Trying to open a new savings account. I hace no negative marks on my ChexSystems account, yet I'm being denied. WTF do I do?

I open probably a dozen bank accounts per year and Chex Systems hasn’t gotten me. You ****ed up somewhere braj

Interesting.

You’re supposed to be given a reason if denied by the bank you’re working with. My guess is the system has few negative Hank Hill characters and you’re being mistaken for one.

Same. I’m all about those free account bonuses. Always worth a grand or more a year.

I've never heard of this thing. Is it one of the big three credit raters under a new name, or is it a new player in the field?

Most ChexSystems banks won’t open an account for you if you have one or more incidents listed on your ChexSystems report. If you’re denied a bank account due to your ChexSystems report, you are entitled to a free report within 60 days of being denied. This is no different from being denied credit due to information on your credit report.
