Sports cards

I went back to KC this weekend and cleared out my house to sell. I brought back my collection of cards. I have around 160 different Shaq cards before he ever left Orlando. He was my favorite.

I have several that are worth several hundred dollars if in the right condition and I am thinking of sending them off to get graded. I have no intention of selling, just wondering if anyone else has unpacked there childhood collection and done the same thing.

Have you actually looked them up recently?

Many of the cards that used to be valued at $50-100 during the 90's, were now around $10-15.

Yeah, they are probably not worth much now. Card values even for the high value cards back in the day is about 10% now.

I had a pretty substantial collection of baseball cards in the 80's...I know those 80's cards are near worthless now.

I remember, specifically, the 84 Topps Don Mattingly was worth a small fortune back in the day (well, to a kid a small fortune anyway), now it's worth barely anything.

75 Topps George Brett rookie cards were the holy grail when I was a kid, and I remember they were quite valuable...they aren't worth much at all now.

Kind of weird how that works.

This...maybe if you live 75 more years they might have some real value.

I have looked them up. I already have around 15 cards I might send out for grading. It’s around 10-15 per card. I spent my youth collecting cards. Mowing yards and shoveling snow and I went about 50/50 on packs and actually buying single cards that had value.

I guess I should have said this to begin with. My collection was worth several thousand dollars around 95’. I am not looking at common cards thinking I have a goldmine. I am just curious if anyone else has revisited their collection and if they spent a grand or two on the choice cards to have them graded.

I have a second-year MJ card graded, I bought it that way. I am not sure it really adds value unless you are talking about pre 70's that are very condition sensitive. Most every card I have is in perfect condition, it would cost a fortune to have them graded.

I unpacked my childhood collection of Penthouse letters and Hustler Magazine but they're all somehow stuck together.

Don't see much value.

Specifically what cards do you have? Very few junk era Shaq cards have any real value.

I have a Fleer MJ rookie, yea... that card. My sister bought it for me in NY in like 92’ and it’s in terrible condition. I love it but I would never send it out to be graded. I am guessing a 2 if I did. Haha

So many MJ rookies out there it isn't even funny. I've seen hundreds of graded MJ rookies stacked on top of each other like it was shredded cheese. People think I'm nuts when I say you can usually get 3-4 MJ rookies per box. At least 2. Of course, most people haven't opened a box of 86-87 fleer basketball

My cousin does it for a side job. Grab the cards you think are we 9rth money, check Ebay. Then send them to be graded, the key. Send cards that you think are 9plus. Then also send in some 7 or 8s.

The strange thing. If you send 10 10s, they will grade 7 as tens then the others lower. But if you send 7 10s and 3 lower cards. The 7 10s will get graded as 10s.
