A place to talk about coins here. Share your experiences of collecting coins, what you have in your possession, selling coins, etc.

I'm sure some folks use https://www.ngccoin.com/ or https://www.pcgs.com/ as a guide.

My dad collects coins and really likes digging through old pennies to find a gem. So I bought him a $50.00 bag of pennies at the bank. Kept him busy a week, weighing each one and sorting them into books.

Hard to get any Phillie coins around here (mostly Denver mint) so I got him a $25.00 unsorted box of pennies in Maine. Most were P mint marks so he could fill out his books.

It was a good way to connect with something he is interested in.

Old copper pennies are getting rare- he ended up getting 15% to 20 % copper out of the whole deal. A handful of wheaties and a few steel.

Always thought this would be a cool hobby, but never got into it.
Should be an interesting thread to read through.

I have my great grandmother's coin collection sitting in a box in the closet at my parents house. I've been told there are some "valuable" ones in there, but I have absolutely no idea what that means. I know baseball cards are pretty worthless unless the card has never been touched or seen the light of day and has a 10-mint rating or whatever it is these days. Are coins similar?
