After the Super Bowl BS: When to Go for 2
During the Super Bowl, I barely had any cognitive function left by the time Toney had his incredible Mr. Fantastic body bending punt return to set us up to take an 8 point lead in the fourth quarter.
When Moore scored, I realized that if Andy had a 2 pt. conversion call he liked, he could go up 36-27 and give the Chiefs a 2 possession lead in the fourth quarter. Obviously, that sort of call is atypical of Reid -- AND it worked out as I was verybhappy later that he didn't go for 2. Weirdly, I like Reid and Patrick even more tied 35-35 with 5 minutes left than I do up 36-34 with 5 minutes left. But, it got me thinking, in the era of longer extra points, do you think coaches might be willing to go for 2 to go up 9 and give their team a 2 possession lead? Or do you think coaches would prefer the 8 point lead and put the burden on the other team to nab the 2 pt. conversion to tie it? (We actually had this scenario play out against the Raiders this year. We went for 2 when we were a yard out and didn't get it. The Raiders then tried to go for 2 to win the game, and got stuffed - eventually giving us the win). Last edited by Chiefspants; 02-15-2023 at 08:04 PM.. |
