This is true. They said it on the KCFX postgame. Friggin' 1980.

I was 11 years old in 1980 and I remember making a scrap book of that season (still have it). Yes, after the 0-4 start, they came back and won 4 in a row, then back and forth the rest of the season until they finished 8-8.

Marv Levy was in the process of building a strong defense led by Art Still, Gary Spani, Gary Green, and Gary Barbaro. On offense, Steve Fuller was a scrambling QB in his 2nd season (after being picked ahead of Joe Montana in 1979---Dammit Carl!!!), and he beat Houston (a good team with Stabler at QB and Earl Campbell at RB) on a 38 yard TD run.

Ted McKnight was our leading rusher with only 700-800 yards and Fuller was our 2nd leading rusher. Henry Marshall and J.T. Smith were good WR's but they didn't throw to them much. After a Fuller injury, Bill Kenney came on to start the last 3 games of the season and he went 2-1 with a couple of 300 yard games.

I remember going to my first Chiefs game that year when they played the Cardinals at Busch Stadium and the Chiefs won (I still have the program from the game).

Oakland had traded Stabler for Pastorini before the season, and in one of the Raider games, the Chiefs broke Dante's leg, giving Plunkett the chance to be a starter and he ended up leading the Raiders to a Super Bowl victory over Vermiel's Eagles.

Amazing to think back about life in 1980. I may have seen one or two Chiefs games all year, because their games weren't usually shown in St. Louis. For my scrapbook, I'd cut out the two-column game recaps from the Post-Dispatch, and that's all I had. If I missed the 6:00 news' sports segment, I wouldn't know who won the game until I read the Monday morning paper. Thank God for ESPN and the internet!

The thing that really sucked was walking two miles in the snow bare-footed just to get that Monday morning newspaper to see if my Chiefs had won.

I love these historical threads. Let's see, in 1980, I ...

...lived at home.

...was trying to figure out where to go to college.

...had a hair style that rivaled Patrick Swayze's.

...thought I had a chance with former Charlie's Angel Jaclyn Smith, if only I could meet her.

...weighed 135 pounds.

...had recently been promoted to steak cook at Sirloin Stockade.

...thought that Dungeons & Dragons was the best cultural innovation since the printing press.

...drove a cool gold 1970 Mustang Convertible (Actually, maybe it was "Butternut Squash.")

I was also a steak cook at Sirloin Stokade in my early youth. And guess who the dishwasher was...Brad Pitt....no kidding . He was a hard worker and seemed kind of nerdy and quiet. He was in high school and working at night and weekends.

I'll offer up the secret Sirloin handshake.

It's too bad that Brad wasn't dating Jennifer Aniston back then. Maybe you could have stolen her away.

And I have to ask, was he pursuing an acting career back then? Did he ever talk about it?

Big Deal I graduated with Michael Jackson. Don't ask if he liked children then, I wouldnt know. Course this Michael Jackson, probably like your Bradd Pitt looks a little differant in person.

Oh and I currently work with Tom Jones.
