KC one of three teams in deep talks with Manning
Top destinations appear to be different than national media thinks. KC, Denver, Washington, have all been in the deepest talks with Condon
https://twitter.com/#!/BrandonSpano/...43365159026688 Posted this in the Manning super thread but thought it was thread worthy. It would be nice to stick it to Shanarat and the Donks, amirite? |

Choices, choices: Sources say 12 teams reached out to Peyton Manning's reps on the day he was released from the Colts.

Peyton Manning in Denver? With Tim Tebow? Posted: 03/08/2012 01:00:00 AM MST By Woody Paige The Denver Postdenverpost.com Woody, Peyton Manning?--Jerry, Irvine, Calif. Jerry, that sure is a point-blank, open-ended question, and I intend to write a column about the Manning issue for The Post's print edition and website today (Thursday) or Sunday, depending on the fluid development, but I'll give you, and you only, the sneak preview. Manning's agent is Tom Condon, who played for a dozen years in the NFL as an offensive guard and has been called the most powerful agent in sports. He represents at least 14 starting quarterbacks in the NFL, including Peyton and brother Eli, Drew Brees (who has just been franchise-tagged), Matthew Stafford, Matt Ryan and Alex Smith. Condon is with CAA (Creative Artist Agency). Guess who has joined him in that association? Memphis-based agent Jimmy Sexton, who represents, among others, Phillip Rivers and... wait for it, wait for it... Tim Tebow. OK, that's a back story. Here's a front story. From my sources very close to CAA and the Broncos, Denver (presumably John Elway or Brian Xanders) will contact Condon immediately to see if there is any interest in the quarterback coming to Denver. But, if you followed the back story, agents don't like to put their quarterbacks in the same city. So, for instance, if Manning came to Denver, there would have to be movement of Tebow somewhere else. Now, the main story. Despite all the screaming and hollering on radio shows about the Broncos and Manning, he's not coming here under any circumstances, especially since Condon is involved with Manning and Sexton with Tebow. Let's face it. The Broncos wouldn't be a Super Bowl team next season with Manning or Tebow with that schedule they face. Manning, according to my sources close to him, wants to play for a team with a genuine chance to get the Super Bowl next season. He prefers a dome (he has won more than 70 percent of his games in a dome), a team with good offensive talent in place (including a solid offensive line), a team with a good defense, a team in the AFC, a team willing to sign a couple of his close associates (receiver Reggie Wayne, for one; center Jeff Saturday for another), a team willing to let him run the show and make calls on the field, and a team willing to give him a lot of guaranteed bonus money and a contract longer than one year. He wants a lot. He'll get it because a recovered Manning is one of the best in the game, and a team won't have to give up draft choices or veteran players to sign the free agent. The teams he will narrow the choice to are the Dolphins (no dome, but warm weather), Arizona (dome), Houston (dome), Washington (no dome, but the franchise wants him bad, and Shanahan did get to the Super Bowl with two other quarterbacks -- Elway and Steve Young), the New York Jets (Condon, I believe, represents Ryan) and the 49ers. I think the top four choices will be the Dolphins (on the upswing at the end of the year, and they are drooling for him to come to south Florida, where he won his only Super Bowl against Chicago), and they have a new coach (from Green Bay) and plenty of money, the Cardinals and the 49ers (who obviously have strong Super Bowl possibilities) and Houston. I'm going with the Texans, who already are a playoff team. Gary Kubiak is noted as a strong QB coach (because he played the position behind Elway and because he coached Elway and Young with Shanahan and has coached Matt Schaub who was on the way to the Pro Bowl in 2011 before getting injured). The Texans have a world-class running back and a world-class wide receiver, an excellent defense if they re-sign Mario Williams and a good offensive line. They have an indoor-outdoor stadium, an owner with money, and they play in the same division as the Colts, so Manning is familiar with the Texans, and would play twice against the team that let him go, and wouldn't have to be in the NFC playing against his brother or, as he would with the Dolphins or the Jets, playing the Patriots and Tom Brady twice a year. The Texans could move Schaub for a draft pick and have the money to pay Manning, and Manning wouldn't be far away from his parents, who live in New Orleans and Mississippi. The Broncos? It doesn't work for either side. So, people can clamor all they want, but it's not going to happen for Denver. Deal with it ![]() |

The only reason Denver is mentioned is the media. They love Tebow and they love Peyton, so why not include them in the same story?

Peyton can't play at altitude on a steady basis in a place called Pile High.

If its those three, you've gotta like our chances....
- Washington is in Eli's division. Tony Dungy already said Manning won't play in Eli's division. - We are in better shape, roster-wise, than Denver. Plus, the Tebow factor will ruffle many a-feather.

Am I the only person with a normal-sized forehead who thinks the demand to sign Wayne and Saturday is both kind of wacky and unbelievably presumptuous?

I don't want him here in Denver, and I don't think it'll matter if he goes to KC.
