My car door got biked!

Let me start by saying I am a driver. I have been driving cars for 25 years, and I have very good control of the car and road vision.

Three weeks ago I was parked on the side of a street and as I opened my car door to get out a bicyclist slammed into my opened door. ( I swear he yelled Geronimo before he smashed into it) This is every drivers worst nightmare. I've had some close calls but I am aways pretty alert. I was parked with two other guys who were about two cars in front of me. They saw the whole thing and they feel lucky this bicyclist didn’t target their car door.

This cyclist slammed into my door so hard it took the door clean off the hinges. I immediately scooched the dislocated car door to the edge of the road. I asked the two other guys to call a body shop right away.

My door was bent almost in half. Big issue was, the window was shattered and the door snapped clean off the hinges.

Needless to say it was painful.

I've had massive body shop repair. I'm three weeks post-body shop. I'm trying to drive off my anxiety and I was up all night, can't sleep because it hurts so much. Just really uncomfortable. It sucks because I use my car for my job, requires quick maneuvering and it's tough to corner.

I wasn't ever going to post anything on here about it, but maybe some of you guys have had bad bicyclist injure your car and have fully recovered, I could just use some cheering up to know that it will take time and my car will be alright. Also, please don’t yell Geronimo when you are slamming into open car doors as a bicyclist.

Driving is my life. Right now I just feel lame and like I'll never be at peace or know the joy of cruising the free road again.
