I always mixed him up with Brooks Robinson. I didn't follow baseball very closely.

I remember watching the Orioles and Pirates and watching Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Dave McNally, Jim Palmer, Mark Belanger, Paul Blair, Don Baylor and manager Earl Weaver.
Them and the Big Red Machine of the Reds were my arch nemesis as a Pittsburgh Pirates fan. Great player and seemed like a real class act. R.I.P.

I tried to think of it this way: Frank was Frank and Brooks was Brooks

I was more of a fan of Brooks honestly. But then again Frank was getting to the end of his career at that point. But Brooks was absolutely one of the best all around 3rd basemen even, IMO.

What's odd about Frank is he played 10 years for the Reds before he was traded to the O's. At Cincy he was Rookie of the Year and MVP, he's the only player to be MVP in both the American and National League.
I grew up in St. Petersburg, FL but was born in Baltimore, so I was an O's fan from birth. My cousin sent me a pack of 9 B/W photos he bought at the stadium for a $1 in 1966. When I was a teenager during spring training, I hung out at Al Lang Field in downtown St. Pete since I lived only about a mile away. When the O's came to play the Cardinals I took my photos and stood next to the visitor locker room. I found my favorite player Louie Aparcio, he played SS like me. He was walking to the team bus and I handed him the photos. He said, let me see what I can do. He got on the bus and about ten minutes later he opened his window and handed me the photos and all were signed in black flair pen. Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Jim Palmer, Boog Powell, Paul Blair, Andy Etechenbarren, Davey Johnson, Dave McNally and of course Louie. What was even better was they won the World Series that year, beat the Dodgers 4 straight which included Koufax and Drysdale as starters. |

See, that's my problem. I was sure it was the other way around.

What about Jackie? Mr. Robinson was easy to keep separate.
