LNBS: Are We Underrating The DE Position?

Yes it's the off season.

Yes we probably can get better on the interior oline but you can find those guys for the low see Wiz.

Okafor is a solid DE can get you 8 sacks or so. Put that with Jones (who will be back) and Clark were talking nearly 30 sacks and for the most part solid on the run.

I made this this thread because I've seen some mocks that have us taking Marlon Davidson.

Not the sexiest pick for us casuals however he ranks I believe 8th? In Auburn sack history. Reminds me of another non-sexy pick at the time Dee Ford. Other than his inability to line up onsides had the ability to get 10-15 sacks in a season.

Let's discuss a guy who can get us 10-15 sacks a year paired with Clark and Jones with an offense that can get you 28 a game.

Anyone with 10 sacks would be top 15 in the league last year.

He can play both just like Jones. Yes hes a Bailey type are we sure a guy like that wouldnt be invaluable with Clark, Jones, Nnadi, and Saunders? With Okafor in the rotation we might not have the Niners talent along the D-Line but pretty damn close with a prolific offense to boot?

Tough to make an argument that this team wouldnt be even better than the championship team.

Perhaps I'm mistaken (anything is possible), but I thought Okafor and Ogbah played well for us pre-injury. They each had 5 sack seasons and were improving along with the defense as the year proceeded. Okafor especially.

Remember ... Ogbah sacked Lamar Jackson twice (one shared IIRC) which speaks to his nimbleness and edge-setting prowess. Keep in mind, he's a sub 4.65 guy (shameless attempt to appeal for support from Vicki from Arkansas).

While with the Saints, Okafor actually had a pick against AS11 which isn't easy to do either. He is also one of the few NFL players to be arrested for resisting a jaywalking arrest attempt. In my book, he receives extra credit for that.

It isn't unreasonable to expect those two guys to improve with another year in Spaggyboots' system.

Not saying that we can't upgrade or that we're "set" at the position, but we have assets.

If AJ Epenesa falls like some think you take him at 32 and you don't bat an eye.

But he's the only DE/edge guy I'd grab early in the draft. Otherwise get me a CB/OL/LB/WR

AJ would be a good get at 32, especially if Jones leaves. I think he can play some interior DL also. He’s not a speed rush guy. More of a power rush, and stout against the run.

Ford was so overrated IMHO and Reid took advantage of it. You look at Ford's production the last 2yrs with the Chiefs, it came against mediocre to poor OLines. Anytime he went up against a stout o-line they shut his arse DOWN.

Our defensive line across the line is a strength going into '20, especially considering we'll get Okafor back by training camp. Would love to take a run at Ogbah too, but someone will throw some money at him.
