Let's Hear it for the O-Line!

No Penalties! Is the NFL's persecution of Jawaan Taylor finally over?? I didn't hear his name once on the broadcast! Also, the protection looked pretty good to me. When Mahomes got pressured, it usually seemed to be several seconds into the play. And while we're at it, the running game continued to deliver! I know the Vikings aren't great defensively, but that seemed like a pretty complete game from the guys up front.

Donovan Smith did well.

Couldn’t tell whose fault it was, but Hunter had one or two sacks where he turned inside of Taylor and got to Mahomes somewhat quickly. Don’t know if that’s on Taylor or Smith. Probably Taylor

Our standards across the board are so high. I peeked in the game thread one time yesterday and people were raging about the OL. Like we all rage about a lot of shit.

But in the big picture, OL is elite. Chiefs are elite. ELITE I TELL YOU!!

I still shudder when I think about what ‘could have been’ disaster of OBJr in a long term $100mm plus contact

I'm fairly certain he's a one and done for us. I can't see why he'd extend now when he is likely to get a shit ton of money with the way he's been playing. Injury insurance, I guess, but I doubt that buys us much of a discount. That said, wtf do I know. I'd love to see him stay.

OBJ’s stupidity really saved Veach’s ass big time. That would have gone down as the biggest mistake he’s made as GM by far.

Haven’t dug into the tape, but it felt like the first sack might have been on Mahomes.

Seemed like he hesitated instead of letting it fly. Like he second guessed himself or something.

The tape will tell the story though. Curious if anyone has looked at that yet.

This is where I am as well, I’d love to see him sign a reasonable 3 year extension or something, but he’s going to want to hit the market and see what he can get after putting this improved tape out there.

I still think there’s a chance he’ll be back, but we’re going to have to wait out the market and go from there. A lot will depend on their opinion of Morris after a year in the system too.

Yeah - it's gonna take awhile to break that habit, if it ever happens at all.

Teams without QBs identify with their OL and for a decade or more that was us. The 'old head' Chiefs fans - not without cause - determined that all problems, and solutions, came from the offensive line.

The Vermeil years with arguably the best OL ever assembled only reinforced that thought process.

So now the expectation is that any pressure is a result of bad OL play and not the fact that the other side gets paid to play ball as well. Sometimes they're just gonna win the rep - shit happens.

The Chiefs have one of the best OLs in football, especially in pass pro. Our issues will rarely, if ever, spring from the OL. But old habits die hard and for some, a single pressure will just be too many.

The OL has been an asset even when the officials were targeting Taylor. And Donovan Smith is gonna have penalties on occasion. Trey Smith is gonna get exposed laterally on occasion. Humphrey and Thuney are androids so I wouldn't worry much about them (though both are capable of being bullied by bigger, powerful DTs).

But on balance this offensive line will be the reason we win games.

We only averaged 5.2 yards per play -- well below our season average. The offense seemed better yesterday because Mahomes hit a bunch of key 3rd down conversions. Minnesota played well on both sides of the ball.
