So Who's a Goner?

Obviously we've added some new faces to the team, and as a result, some guys will be packing their bags also. We can throw out obvious names like Morton, but considering we haven't gone out and got a replacement for him, I'm not so sure. I'm thinking a large number of the cuts will be depth guys, although some of the more expensive '04 starters could be cut loose too.

Here are our current players at positions we've made additions to:

LB:
*Bell
Fujita
Barber
Mitchell
Fox
Mazlowski
Scanlon

This seems like the easiest one. With Maz a likely injury settlement, he'll be the one making room for Bell. Beisel wasn't even listed on the roster, which was updated enough to have yesterday's addition of Carlos Hall. Could that be a sign? Don't let the door hit you on the ass Monty...

Safety:
*Knight
Woods
Wesley
Harts
Pile
Connot (listed as DB, but I think he's a safety)
Crouch (hahahaha)

This is a bit tougher. My guess is we could cut whoever loses in the battle for starting FS, as an economic move. However, both Woods and Wesley are early in their contract, so maybe the team won't be willing to take the hit, or give up on them so easily. Harts and Pile have been respectable as back-ups, and I doubt Connot would make the roster anyway. We could cut someone from our glut of CBs as well.

D-line:
*Hall
Hicks
Sims
Dalton
Allen
Browning
Siavii
Jabari (who?)
Sharpe
Stills
Walker
Wilkerson

This is another tough one. After the TC fodder (Jabari and Walker), there's no one that's clearly the odd man out. If Stills wasn't so solid on ST, I'd say him. We're still waiting for Wilkerson to blossom. Of course the fans would appear to want Hicks gone, but I just don't see it happening. My guess is Montique Sharpe, unless something happens in TC.

IMO, it will be interesting to seee how this year's roster shapes up. If we get Johnson, I fully expect Morton to be gone. But if we don't, I think we keep him. There's a few other young WRs that may not get a chance. Obviously there's a long list of CBs that should get a pink slip, but past experience indicates that Vermeil keeps a sh*t-ton of defensive backs every year. We still need help at FB, with Joe Hall being the current back-up to T-rich. And we're not even looking for room for the draft picks yet...

I just can't see how Stills can remain on the roster.

Some of our 5th, 6th and 7th round picks can replace him on STs, and I could replace him in the D rotation.

He has 8 sacks in 5 years.

8 freakin' sacks

That's supposed to be his specialty.

He's fuking useless.
Sack his ass!

Does going to the pro bowl for special teams mean anything?

I don't think Stills is that easily replaced on STs. He didn't make the pro bowl for being average. We could probably argue that he offers the Chiefs as much as Gammon does.

Even so, I wouldn't miss him.

Not to me.
Especially when I see him whiff on a couple of blocks that could have gotten Dante into the End Zone last season.

And also because of the fact that I really don't put much stock in PBs.
They are primarily a popularity contest.

If any postion in the probowl is legit, a ST gunner is the one. It's not like people are out buying Stills jerseys around the country.

And we're going to cut every player that whiffed last year, we're in trouble.

What I'm saying is that he made his reputation in '03, but his STs play last season was pretty average.

Actually, '03 is where he whiffed on that block against Cleveland that kept him from breaking the TD return record. But I see a lot of people remembering that missed block while forgetting all the blocks that sprung Hall on his other returns.

I actually forgot about that whiff against Cleveland.

So there's another strike against him.

Thanks for the ammo jsp!

Right...cause Gary Stills is definately a popular household name kind of guy.

He's worth having if for no other reason than special teams imo. Especially if you don't have anyone better.

If Bartee is still on the roster, that will be a complete mystery to me. This guy is a CB and does not have one, not ONE INT to his name...that's just fuggin ridiculous. Stills is a better player than Bartee, at least he contributes...cut Bartee before anyone else...
