I argued with my Doc today

I went in for a quick check of my blood pressure today and once again it was high (142/94) while I was there. Well, this time I took in my BP monitor that I use according to how blood pressure is supposed to be taken. I showed him the results I had taken for the last couple of weeks and he wasn't impressed. I told him, "How is it that BP is supposed to be taken in the morning and while relaxed for 30 minutes and I get normal readings, yet when I rush around to get here for a check it's always high?" I think there's something wrong here. How many people are taking BP medication because their Doc took a few readings that showed it was high without considering the conditions under which the reading was taken. Anyone else concerned about this sort of thing?

Just take the drugs so your doc can get his check.

Sounds like what just happened to me.

Mine was high at the doc's office for the first time ever, but they pointed out that probably was because I was there. I think they called it "white coat syndrome" or somwthing like that, basically its just from being nervous because you're at the doctor's office.

They said to take my BP during the week to assure that's the case.

Worst case you die of a heart attack! (jk) high blood pressure is nothing to fool with. The good news is if the team you root for stinks long enough you can watch them blow a game in the last seconds with no change to your blood pressure what so ever!

Can anyone else change their heart rate and BP by thinking about it? I tried for the first time in front of a doctor during my last physical, and it worked. The look on the doctor's face was amusing.

always goes up in DRs office....its that fear of hearing you will die a slow and painful death soon...or youre there for your yearly prostrate exam

My blood pressure has never been high when I have had it checked at the Dr's office, the most recent being taken at a time that most would consider highly stessful.
