Answers uncovered in Mullholland Dr.

Perhaps this is a bit off-kilter. But when I first viewed the movie Mullholland Drive I really liked it, but simply couldn't describe what the plot meant. Though this doesn't clear everything up, it helps clarify a little of it.

Enjoy

Here's the real deal with that movie. It was supposed to be a serial television series. ABC (IIRC) bought the pilot, then decided not to turn it into a series. David Lynch tried to get on a cable network, but to no avail. He finally convinced a French/Canadian company to bankroll turning the initial footage into a feature film. That's why the movie really doesn't make all that much sense.

I have a feeling that with the success of 24 and Lost, David Lynch was (again) a little too ahead of his time.

I picked up Eraser Head from the library last month. I know Lynch and pretty much know what to expect. Man holy sh*t that movie was too much for me. It gave a weird feeling that I couldn't shake for awhile. After analyzing it for awhile to figure out what I was supposed to take from the movie, I quit and decided to put it out of my mind.

Although the two plus hours of interviews with Lynch in the bonus features was very cool.

Also Lynch wasn't ahead of his time. He was just a little earlier that the rest. Twin Peaks was a huge success.

Twin Peaks was awesome, although I've only seen the first season and I hear that it all went downhill after that. Fire Walk With Me exceeded my expectations by far. I'm excited for Lynch's next movie (Inland Empire), even though its almost 3 hours long.

I hated "Mulholland Drive." I was literally angry after watching that crap movie because after sitting there for (what felt like) 92 hours straight I realized that the movie had to end soon and there was no way they could ever make it make any sense. And I realized that they didn't care. They had no intention of making the movie make sense. It was just a senseless barrage of image and sound with no direction and no purpose and no meaning. What a load of crap.

You need to drop acid to understand that movie because I'm sure Lynch was on something. Still, it's a movie I've watched a few times because it's so ****ing weird.

You do realize that David Lynch directed it, right? Here's a few quotes from him about "making sense."

Lynch can burn in hell after what he did to Dune. I'll never watch anything he's associated with or put another cent in his pocket. If the sonofabitch made a movie about me I wouldn't watch it.
