Courtney Brown had an interesting teammate and possible draft pick from Cal Poly, 2006 Buck Buchanan award winner, linebacker Kyle Shotwell.
Shotwell is 6-1, 235 pounds and led the nation in tackles for a loss. He finished the season with 122 total tackles, 21 tackles for loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery, while leading a unit that ranked in the top ten nationally in total and scoring defense and pressured opposing quarterbacks with 37 sacks. Shotwell led all players in the East-West Shrine Game with seven tackles (five solo) on Jan. 20. After the game Shotwell was voted by the game's coaches -- including Don Shula, Dan Reeves and Mike Singletary -- and selection committee as the Pat Tillman Award winner. The honor is given to the player who best exhibits character and work ethic. Mike Singletary said Shotwell was one of the hardest working kids he has seen the past few years. |

Shotwell claims scouts are a bit down on him because of his size.....He's not the size/speed speciman N.F.L. teams look for -- like former Mustang Jordan Beck was in 2005, but he's a solid overall player. He had a great college career and played well against 1-a teams.

Courtney Brown, CB, Cal Poly: The most impressive overall workout of the early Pro Day sessions unquestionably belongs to Brown. Not invited to the Combine due to questions about his speed, Brown's efforts March 6 at San Jose State silenced critics in exactly 4.35 seconds. After running that first blistering time, Brown's second attempt was timed at 4.32, matching the top time in Indianapolis this year (Arkansas CB Chris Houston). Brown wasn't only fast, his 41.5-inch vertical jump, 10'11" broad jump and 4.07-second short shuttle were also among the elite turned in by any athlete at the Combine or subsequent Pro Days. Perhaps most exciting is the fact that Brown is hardly considered a workout warrior. He missed nearly the entire 2004 season with a torn ACL, but returned in 2005 to earn D-IAA All-American honors with seven interceptions. Timed at a 4.60 last spring, Brown entered his senior season discounted by some scouts, yet rarely challenged by the opposition, leading to less than eye-popping statistics in 2006 (one interception, seven pass break ups, 55 tackles). With size, athleticism and obvious upside, Brown certainly won't be overlooked any more. |

Sorry to keep pimping this guy, but he keeps getting some good press for a late round draft pick.
http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sco...tneybrown.html Strengths: Has very good size and bulk...Timed speed is excellent...An outstanding leaper...A playmaker with good hands and ball skills...Has top-notch intangibles...A fantastic athlete...Can also contribute on special teams...Has a lot of upside and potential. Weaknesses: Did not play against elite competition...Still raw in terms of technique and is not yet a finished product...Didn't get many opportunities as a senior because teams threw away from him...Has some durability concerns...Is he a bit too overhyped? Notes: Played wide receiver as a freshman...He missed virtually the entire 2004 season due to a knee injury suffered in the season opener...Classic workout warrior who went from off the radar to a draftable prospect after an amazing Pro Day in which he ran in the low 4.3's with a 41 1/2 inch vertical...Hails from the same Division I-AA program that produced recent 3rd round picks Jordan Beck and Chris Gocong the last two years...Most certainly a very intriguing late round developmental guy.
