Oklahoma Advice Needed

I have an offer for a great job based in Oklahoma, and am in need of advice from those who know the state. I would likely be able to live in either OKC or Tulsa. From my very limited knowledge, it seems like Tulsa is a prettier place overall, but I suppose OKC has its' benefits too.

I have 2 kids, ages 7 & 10, so schools will play an important part in the decision. I've lived in KC most of my life, so any comparisons/contrasts there would be appreciated. Thanks!

I live near Tulsa and I much prefer it to OKC. It is easy to get around in because whoever named the streets was a genious. Starting with Main street a street with the name of a western city indicates you are west of main. And they are in alphabetical order as well. Going west it is Boulder, Cheyenne, Denver, etc. Going east it is Boston, Cncinnati, Detroit, etc. Also, Tulsa is barely 100 years old so you don't see many old dilapidated buildings. OKC and Tulsa are almost exactly the same population. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

I've been to both places and with kids... I would prefer Tulsa. It just looks cleaner to me with as much or more things to do.

Thanks, Skip. As a fellow Jayhawk, are you able to get the hoops games during the season?

Also, what parts of Tulsa are preferable to live?

Thanks.

They have something like that in a central section of Austin, TX. IIRC, North/South streets are named for the major rivers of Texas with the westernmost street being named for the Red River (the northernmost river in Texas) and the easternmost street being named for the Rio Grande. It's kind of neat, but it takes a working knowledge of Texas geography to really make it work for you.

Stay out of north Tulsa. It is ghetto. There is moderately priced housing in several of the suburb cities like Owasso, Broken Arrow ( BA to the locals), Jenks and Sand Springs. I get most Jayhawk BB games. This year I missed ORU and DePaul (luckily). Can you say who you work for? That would probably determine where you want to live.

Many Tulsa natives don't realize that neat system. If you tell me you are in the 300 block of Frakfort, I know you are 5 streets east of main and the numbered streets are like any other city.

I would imagine you have a better chance of seeing Chiefs games on local broadcast TV in Tulsa.
Tulsa is a more "artsy fartsy" (like KC) where OKC is more of a cowtown. They both have their qualities.

My choice would be Tulsa

We get all but one or two Chiefs games on CBS. At one time, OKC was the largest (in land area) city in the US. It is all spread out compared to Tulsa. Tulsa also has two division 1 sports schools. ORU and the University of Tulsa. It also has one of the top golf courses in the US in Southern Hills Country Club. They play major tour events there. The PGA is there this summer and I went to a US Open there.

I lived in KC in '65 and '66. One day I left KC and it was snowing. I picked up my mom in Coffeyville and took her shopping in Tulsa. There were magnolia trees in bloom there. There is a noticeable climate difference between Tulsa and KC.
