Anybody else SNORE way too much/loud?

While having the bed to myself is not always a bad thing...I'm starting to feel sorry for the Mrs. Seems about 4 out of 7 nights a week I'm running her out of the room because I'm snoring so freaking loud it's keeping her awake. (enter your jokes here).

Anybody have a cure/idea/suggestion on how to make it stop?
No...A pillow over my face is not an option.

My dad snores so loud he'll wake himself up. I remember the time he was snoring and we decided to put hot sauce on his lips, that was classic.

I have the same problem, but it's me who hits the couch in my house. I went to the doctor about it earlier this summer. Given my situation it is unlikely that I have sleep apnea. The main cause of my snoring is excess soft tissue in the back of my throat. The doc gave me an out-patient surgical option: the laser off your punching bag, then cut a couple of v-shaped notches in the soft pallette. After it heals, it opens up the air way. Another doctor told me there was a significant amount of pain involved in the surgery. Insurance won't cover it but it is only about $600. I'm considering having it done in the Fall or around the first of the year.

If you have apnea, they'll perscribe a Darth Vadar mask for you to sleep with. If that doesn't work, then there is a more extensive surgical procedure where they basically cut a large rectacular opening through your entire soft pallette. If you have apnea, your insurance will likely cover the sleeping mask and the surgery.

You'll need to go to a doctor though to get a specific diagnosis for your situation. Apnea is nothing to fool with, if you have that.

Isn't "snore too much" sort of redundant? Just as you never hear anyone say, "As soon as I put this hot poker in my ass, I'm going to chop my dick off.", you also will never hear your sig other say, "Honey, you don't snore enough".

Yup. See an experienced EENT. They'll probably put you on a CPAP machine, if they can. And they'll want you to lose some weight. Depending on the anatomical issues involved (air passage obstructions like tonsils, fleshy soft pallet, etc....) they may consider surgery (U.P.P.P. among others.)

Good luck. If it is sleep apnea, I've been through the surgery....and although I'm still in the early post-operative stages, things went really well for me (so far.) I'd be happy to discuss it with you in more detail.

Also, Planeteer GoHuge39 is a PA with some experience in it. Here's a thread I started awhile back about my experience.

I have started really snoring badly in the last year or so. I thought about going to the doctor but I think mine is more weight related. I weigh around 185 and my ideal weight is supposed to be 166.

I feel ten years younger....amazing what REM sleep, oxygen, and awaking feeling like you actually sleep can do for you. Apparently, considered by many to be a silent killer because of the degradation of vital organs over time due to the oxygen deficiencies and lack of real sleep.

High blood pressure, heart problems, and the whole domino-effect are vastly under-reported and not well documented--until recently, really.

Sleep Apnea is often weight related according to my Nuerologist/Pulmanologist (same guy). He hopes mine will go away someday when he takes me off steroids so I can lose some tonage.

I had sleep apnea... lost 90lbs... all gone. I have been told I have a light snoring still, but nothing like it used to be.
