What do you have to be thankful for this Thanksgiving?

This has been one hell of a year. I am thankful that for my father still being around. A little over a year ago my father went in for cancer and had his bladder removed. He still had it in both of his ureter’s but started homeopathic treatment and has had negative test results ever since.

I am thankful that my sister has come back from Iraq again another year in one piece without any problems. After 6 years of her trying to adopt I have also been blessed with a little nephew who’s birth date is only one day off of what my own child’s should have been.

I am thankful for not losing my wife and son when it easily could have went the other way. I am thankful that we are all healthy and happy now and he is actually in the top 1% for his height. He is a very healthy boy.

I am thankful my grandmother made it to 100 and we were all there to celebrate it with her a week and a half ago. She was foggy at first then we were blessed with a sudden clarity that would last the night while four generations of our family spent time with her.

I am thankful to an awesome family most of who stayed to see my son and nephew dedicated in church the next morning. Our family took up two entire rows of the church. Pretty special.

I am very thankful for my own health which has allowed me to compete and bring home medals in a year that was very turbulent.

I am also very thankful to my family and friends who are more awesome and loving than anyone could ever ask to have. I truly feel god had blessed us this year.

I am thankful for my wife and my children. My life would be so empty without them.

I am thankful for having been born to a family that has always loved me and cared for me whether I was at my best or at my worst.

I am thankful that my wife talked me into having another kid a few years ago. Seeing my 4 y/o daughter every morning is always a ray of sunshine, regardless of what the day might bring.

I am thankful for the good life we have, and for our home. That is not something to be taken for granted. I was making a donation at a local food bank last week. I had never seen their client waiting area so crowded. Times are difficult for many people.

I am thankful to live in such a beautiful world. Even with all it's troubles we are blessed to be a part of it.

I love being a dad. Nothing better than spending time with my boy. I think it's easy to get all wrapped up in what's going on with us sometimes. Almost missed out on one of the best things in life. When I went to grandmothers 100th I dropped in on a friend I had not seen in a long time. He adopted 6 kids, 5 of them special needs who were labeled unadoptable and were going to be institutionalized until they were 18. Best run family I have ever seen. Oldest one is entering the brain bowl. Had an 8 year old tearing apart and rebuilding electronic engines. More love in that house than you could ever imagine. I have never seen him so happy. Not for everyone for sure but the difference he is making in those kids life is amazing.

As I woke this morning, I was overcome with feelings of anticipation as I thought about the week ahead and the Thanksgiving holiday. Thanksgiving is a time for reflection, introspection and taking time out to give thanks for the many people and blessings in our lives. It’s a time to gather with family and friends, to enjoy a long holiday weekend, to savor every bite of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pie.

This Thanksgiving, however, is going to be an extra special one for Jayhawk fans all across the country.
This Thanksgiving, Jayhawk hearts will be overflowing with more love and joy than ever. This Thanksgiving every Jayhawk fan is going to have an extra bounce in their step. This Thanksgiving every Jayhawk fan is going to be talking about the game in Arrowhead Stadium on November 24th against the Misery Tiggers. This Thanksgiving will be one that Jayhawk fans will talk about for years to come.

With that in mind, here is the Jayhawk version of “Things I am thankful for.”:

*Mark Mangino and his entire coaching staff
*A legitimate shot at the National Championship in both football and basketball

Yes, Jayhawk fans, we have so much to be thankful for this season. Perhaps more than ever. Eat some turkey, then eat a little more, and then get your GAME FACES on.

What am I thankful for? I hadn't thought about it until now.

1. Like someone above me, I am thankful for my wife. I don't deserve her.

2. I am thankful for all 4 of my kids. With them all so close in age, it makes the house stressful, but when they are not trying to break something, rip something, beat each other up, they are worth every minute. The stressful times make the rest of the time that much better.

3. I am thankful for my parents. They deal with a lot coming from my brother & sister. I've always tried to treat them - and everyone else - as I want to be treated. Through everything, they've been there for me. They've picked me up when I was down and they've pulled me back down to earth.

4. I am thankful for my life in general. I have more than any one man should have. Loving family, great kids, my own house, and enough money to get the things we need. There are a lot of people that are a lot less fortunate than we are.

5. I am thankful for my job. I have the flexibility I need to be able to spend time with my family.

6. I am thankful for the Planet. For without it, I may go crazy one day and sue for illegal use of copyright.
