Desktop memory help

I've got a Dell Dimension 2400 with only 256MB. Wanting to know the best place to by additional memory. The kids say the darn thing to too slow. I've found a few places with an additional 512MB for $36.99 delivered. Is that enough? Should I got up to a full GB, and if so, where is the best/cheapest place to buy?

Memory is pretty cheap, I would go up to at least 1GB.

Agreed on newegg.com. As for how much you get, it just depends on the price. If your computer can handle a 1GB chip, and if you find one that's not much more than the 512MB, you might as well go for it. However, do make sure it'll work first, as I've had a couple of those 2400s that wouldn't take a 1GB chip. If that's the case, you might as well just get the 512 to take you up to 768. Then, if you need it later, you can go ahead and get another 512 to bump you up to a full gig.

I'll mention that I do a ton of stuff with my computer and have been operating for three years on 512MB total with no complaints. Of course, I don't do games, but XP itself doesn't really see any benefits above 512. It's all the other crap that you use that may need more than that.
