Cubs tell fans to stop booing Soriano

CHICAGO -- Cubs chairman Crane Kenney said Wednesday the team did not tell security personnel in the left field bleachers to crack down on fans who might boo or harass struggling outfielder Alfonso Soriano.

Soriano dropped a fly ball in the ninth inning Sunday in Pittsburgh, helping the Pirates rally to a victory. One season ticket holder told the Chicago Tribune that crowd control personnel told fans Monday they were instructed by supervisors to use a no-tolerance policy for anyone cursing at Soriano, or harassing him.

"The rules have not changed in the ballpark, which have consistently been booing is part of the game and anything related to booing. But profanity and anything racial is not allowed, regardless of where it happens in the ballpark," Kenney said before Wednesday night's game.

"What I'm hearing from our security staff is that the booing hasn't been significant nor has anyone been talked to. So I'm not really sure where this issue comes up."

Kenney said there have been no problems in the bleachers.

"We did not admonish our security guards to be more watchful of it, nor did we have any ejections nor did we really have any issues," he said. "We did not advise our security guards to change their behavior at all after the Pittsburgh series nor are we aware of any incidents of ejections or anyone even being disciplined."

Kenney said that recently acquired Jim Edmonds was booed much louder this week than Soriano.

HAHA reading articles like this just puts how bad the Royals are in perspective. Soriano is batting .285 with 11 jacks. He'd be by far the best offensive player on our team. Last year Soriano went .300 with 33 jacks. Royals fans think John Buck is good

Sure he's a good hitter. But put him in the outfield, and the one who sucks the penis couldn't catch a cold. He's terrible. And he gets paid way too much money to suck. He should get booed.

So what, he can come here and be our DH. How much worse can he be at fielding than Emil Brown defensively even?

Good luck with that - they're paying him a fortune.

The problem is he was originally an infielder. Washington moved him to the outfield against his wishes, and Chicago left him there. He's just a piss poor outfielder. He's also a prima donna who cries like a little girl if things don't go his way. I fully expect him to lead a Cubs late-season nosedive. Another year of "all that talent - what happened?"

I have a hard time believing that will happen under Lou Pinella.

As long as the team stays healthy.

A few fielding percentage numbers:

Alfonso Soriano-.985 1 error
Reed Johnson- .987 1 error
Kosuke Fukudome- .992 1 error

Chris Duncan-.967 2 errors
Rick Ankiel-.983 2 errors
Skip Schumaker-.990 1 error

Also Soriano and Fukudome top 2 in all-star votes. Soriano would be the best outfielder on your team.

You're high. How many balls drop in for hits that don't get called errors that a decent outfielder would catch? Do you ever watch the man play?

I wouldn't want Sosa-ano on my team unless it had a DH. I'd take Ankiel or Schumacker over him any day, primarily because they're not egomanical babies.

As for Duncan, well, you got me there. I'd have traded him to that team in Canada for a bunch of bats a month ago.

It'll be fun watching it all unravel. Hopefully it'll end this year before you chumps sully the playoffs.

I agree he's had some blunders. I admitted the other day he should have more errors. His bat outweighs his glove though. He may have cost us a couple games but he has made up for it with clutch hitting this past month to win a couple games for us as well (tonights walkoff single) Overall I think any GM in his right mind would take the Cubs outfield over the Cards any day of the week.

The guy is an adventure in left field but he can literally carry the team on his back for a week or two weeks at a time(as he did a couple weeks ago hitting 7 home runs in one week). I love having him on the Cubs..taking a few more fly balls before the game wouldn't hurt though
