49ers will interview Raye for offensive coordinator job
I thought this would gather a laugh...I checked and I dont think its a repost.
http://www.mercurynews.com/49ersheadlines/ci_11564701 49ers will interview Raye for offensive coordinator job By Daniel Brown Mercury News Posted: 01/27/2009 12:33:34 PM PST Jimmy Raye II, who helped orchestrate the greatest rushing season in NFL history, emerged Tuesday as a potential candidate in the 49ers' offensive coordinator search. ProFootballTalk.com reported that Raye would interview for the 49ers' vacancy, perhaps Wednesday. A 49ers spokesman said he could not comment on the report. Also Tuesday, Baltimore Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson was back for a second interview. Raye, 62, spent last season as the New York Jets' running backs coach. More memorably, he was the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams in 1983-84. During Raye's second season, Eric Dickerson rushed for 2,105 yards, an NFL record that still stands. In all, Raye has 11 seasons as an offensive coordinator on his resume, including 2004-05 with the Raiders. He was also in Tampa Bay in 1985-86, when a young quarterback named Steve Young struggled through some growing pains — before going on to become a Hall of Famer for the 49ers. Only one of Raye's offenses has finished in the NFL's top 10 for yardage: The 1998 Kansas City Chiefs finished eighth as former 49ers quarterback Elvis Grbac threw for 4,169 yards and 28 touchdowns. Raye has more than 30 years of NFL coaching experience. His first job in the NFL was with the 49ers in 1977. A native of Fayetteville, N.C., Raye was a starting quarterback for Michigan State in the late 1960s. He led the Spartans to the Rose Bowl in 1966. The report linking him to the 49ers comes shortly after two previous candidates, Rob Chudzinski and Dan Reeves, appeared to have landed elsewhere. ESPN.com reported that Chudzinski was close to being hired by the San Diego Chargers as tight ends/assistant head coach. ESPN.com also reported that Reeves, who interviewed with the 49ers on Friday, was in line to become a consultant for the Dallas Cowboys. That would mean that four of the 49ers' seven official candidates have found other employment. Scott Linehan took the offensive coordinator job with the Detroit Lions and Rick Dennison returned to the Denver Broncos as an assistant. In search of a replacement for Mike Martz, the 49ers also interviewed Colts receivers coach Clyde Christensen. |

That is incorrect... It was the 2000 Chiefs where Grbac had the big statistical year b/c the Chiefs couldn't run the ball.

Jimmy Raye has been hired by the 49ers to call their offense.
Singletary just went from hero to goat with 49ers fans. It feels good to be far away from this nonsense.
