To me, it's a hybrid between the cliche "one game at a time" and the realistic "look at the whole season."

I remember Haley saying at one PC, that the "quarters of a season" concept is what he was taught as the "proper" way to view it. Just seems like there should be more to it than that.

beat me to it.
it gives a coach a way to chart his teams progress and to make long term changes more effectively. Part of me thinks he threw the first quarter to try to manufacture imorovement as the season goes along. Part of my conspiracy theory on the whole "ego" thing |

I think the majority of coaches will say that they have (a) heard this many times before and (b) that the majority of coaches view seasons the same way.

Vermeil did the same thing, and I think Edwards did too. When you break it down this way, it's more manageable to review and chart success without throwing too much emphasis into one game or having to wait for the whole season to end. Mostly it's about morale and effort. You don't want your team to start resting on their laurels if they are 4-0 or 8-0, you want to tell them they are 0-0 again. Also if you are 0-4 you want to be able to tell your team they get a chance for a fresh start.

he's treating the season like 4 quarters. that's why he is running it so much this quarter, because it is just the end of the firs quarter. Maybe the last 2 games we will run the 2 minute drill the whole game
