Car Enthusiasts... My neighbor has a 1978 Corvette Indy Pace Car

With 368 miles on it. It's stored in a controlled environment and he says it's worth about $40K. I've always loved Corvettes, but are the Pace cars sold at a premium? He took it to the KC Corvette Club a couple of years ago and won "Best in Show" hands down.

What is something like this really worth? BTW, he moved in next door less than a year ago and I just found out about this today. And yes, he's an honest dude.

check and see if any have been sold at auction in recent years. that may give you an idea.

oh and yes the pace car is worth more. especially a best in show winner at the kc corvette club, if it's still in that good of shape i would bet he's on track

There were about 6500 made.

"Today, the Pace Cars with limited mileage continue to bring top dollar. A L-82, 4-speed Pace Car with less than 100 miles was recently sold for $31,000. Another Pace Car with the L-48 motor and automatic transmission with only 4 miles sold at the “low price” of $20,750 at Bloomington Gold last year. "

However, if that sucker has the Goodyear's with the Indy imprinted on them, then it's likely worth a lot more. Only the first 300 had the special tires.

He said this exact car sold at Barrett-Jackson for $48K recently (under 1000 miles). Don't B-J bidders have more money than sense?

There were many of these cars put away, in a very similar manner. I have watched them at auction, and they barely bring more than their original selling price of around $25k. There has been a lot of discussion on this car, at the auctions, it just wasn't that special.

I remember the comments at those auctions, you would have been better off sticking the money in the bank, especially when you consider inflation.

Your local Kia dealer has something faster than that vette. I would not give you a dollar for any Corvette produced from 1971 till 1989. The horsepower ratings were pathetic.

35th?

You may want to re-check your math, first year of the Corvette was '53.
