Mayock Ranks Sergio Kindle Over McClain

NFL Network's Mike Mayock believes Texas OLB Sergio Kindle is more polished entering the league this year than Brian Orakpo was last year.

Mayock has Kindle rated as the No. 7 player in the entire draft. He insists that the "explosive defensive playmaker" is the easy choice for the Dolphins at No. 12, especially over ILB Rolando McClain (rated No. 17 overall by Mayock). Mayock doesn't believe "there's any way in the world" that WR Dez Bryant falls to the Dolphins.

Mayock went from saying that both Stafford and Sanchez should have gone back to school this time last year, to saying that they were sure-fire, must take Top 5 picks in the weeks leading to the draft.

There's a lot of time for these guys to flip-flop on prospects.

Mayock is good from a technical standpoint, but he's the most overrated mother****er of all draft gurus. He constantly contradicts himself, and some of his projections are controversial for the sake of being so.

Thomas over Berry, Ayers over everyone.

Saying Kindle is a better prospect than Orakpo is ****ing reeruned. He was nowhere near as productive as Orakpo. He may eventually be better than Orakpo, but he hasn't shown it on the field.

Kindle has literally 0 pass rushing moves. I still think he's a good prospect, and I'd love the Chiefs to get him, but...

I always kind on wonder if his inside sources aren't just $$$. Lots and lots of $$$ would make me say your prospect is top 5 rather than top 10.

Y'all have to consider the context in which he said that. All he's saying is that Kindle is more polished doing the things he'll have to do in the 3-4 then Orakpo was. Orakpo was nothing but a hand in the ground pass rusher in college. Kindle did a lot more in that defense as far as moving around, dropping into coverage, etc. He and Orakpo won't play the same position in the NFL though. Kindle is a prototypical weakside OLB ala Shaun Phillips while Orakpo is a prototypical strongside defender.

Those three being the top for their respective positions is very questionable to me and it begs the question of if there are other factors at play.

And? While it seems this board has an electric hard-on for McClain, let's get one thing straight - he a Mike Linebacker in a 3-4 alignment. He's a run plugger. That position literally defines the notion of getting players at that position later in the draft. No one takes a Mike backer with a top five.

Kindle plays the OLB spot, and has the length and athleticism to rush the qb from either OLB spot. McClain is not a good blitzing linebacker. He is a run plugger. Kindle is more important from a positional value perspective. It's not that hard to understand people.

I'm not sure there is a board consensus at this point unless it's Berry. I wish there was a bad ass OLB/DE worth the 5th pick available but I'm not seeing that in this draft class. That may change in the next couple of weeks if a couple of players really impress.
