Chiefs Hire Three More In The Front Office

Chiefs Hire Three More In The Front Office

by Joel Thorman on Apr 27, 2010 1:22 PM PDT in 2010 Campaign

Back in February, Bob Gretz of BobGretz.com reported the Chiefs would not renew the contract of Winston Lamonte, the director of player development. Here's what Mr. Gretz said at the time:
Among the front office employees at the end of the 2008 season, there are 39 that are no longer employed or working in the same job. Sports teams generally can have high turnover, but 37 people in 13 months is a remarkable number. And those still standing at the team's offices think the purge is not over.
Indeed the changes are not over. From a Chiefs press release:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced the hiring of Katie Douglass as the club's Director of Player Development on Tuesday. The club also announced the promotions of Mike Borgonzi to Manager of Football Operations and Dom Green to the post of Regional Scout.
Douglass was previously with, you guessed it, the Patriots. Borgonzi spent several years at Boston College. Green came to the Chiefs last year.
Sounds like Chiefs GM Scott Pioli is continuing to bring in his guys (which is pretty normal).

It's not "hide" three more in the front office?

My mistake. Sorry.

Sad that the OP can't even get the names right. It is Lamonte Winston...not Winston Lamonte.

Player Development has nothing to do with on the field. It is getting guy's homes, banks, off the field programs, learning to read, grad school, staying away from Westport etc.

Jeezus, can this crew do anything right? Those hires SUCK. That's not even close to what Walterfootball's mock hirings had.

They should've hired Mike Pantaglonia from the Eagles, Derick Jastrow from the Cowboys and Pete Funderburk from the Saints. ALL of those guys were available, and Pioli passed on them.

I know. I was expecting more out of the peanut gallery, however. This is too egalitarian a reaction for the planet.

OK, how about: She'll probably wind up sleeping with at least one of the players.

Word has it that Haley was pushing hard for Anthony Davis who he had with the Cardinals to come in and be the DPDOTF (Director of Player Development of the Future) but was overruled by Pioli, because he knew Katie Douglass from the Patriots, and feels that Lisa Siebern is a competent backup should she falter...

You know, I was hoping we'd sign a Player Development Director like Katie Douglass, but not Katie Douglass herself. I was hoping for somebody an inch or two taller, with a better 40-time. It's a major gamble when there were more prototypical options out there, and I don't think a lawyer her size can ever become more than an assistant director in the league. That was a luxury hire that a franchise like ours just can't afford.
