Honest, Reputable Mechanic?
Anyone have any recommendations for a mechanic in or around Overland Park?

My little brother's car broke down while here on a visit. I'm no mechanic, but the first place is telling him he needs a new transmission. Could be true, but I'd like a 2nd opinion as I have no knowledge of the place AAA recommended.

He's on a college budget so I don't want someone taking advantage just because he's got Iowa plates.

check to see if there's a Certified Transmission nearby. they are reputable. AND they have a great warranty that would be covered in iowa IIRC.

I had an issue last year(maybe 2 now), took to Cottman and they said it would require a full rebuild. I then took it to Certified and they quickly told me the transmission was just fine, but my cat converter was clogged and I'd need a new one. I'd go Certified.

The current place just told me they can't rebuild a Mitsubishi Galant transmission and it would have to be replaced. Anyone know if that's accurate?

maybe THEY can't but I'm pretty sure someone can. Good friend of mine had a gaylant back in the day and if I recall he had the tranny rebuilt at some point.

I've never heard anything good about Cottman. Certified is expensive but they get your shit fixed quickly and will stand behind it.

Update:

Went to certified. They serviced the transmission for $108.00 and the car has been running great for 2 weeks. The "other place" coughAutoDoctorscoughofOverlandparkcough said it would need a $2900 transmission.
