Dessert Warfare: Round 1, Match 7

I have arbitrarily decided to up the number of matchups in a poll to five. My reasons? Five is a prime number. Five is the number of digits on a typical person's hand or foot. Five was the number of Jacksons. There are all sorts of good reasons. But the bottom line is that it's now five.

Chocolate Swirl Cheesecake vs. Banana Cream Cheesecake

No question here. Chocolate in a cheesecake? Swirled? Big yes. As discussed before, I'm not that much into banana-flavored stuff.

S'mores vs. Vanilla Cake with White Icing.

This is a tough one. I like them both, but don't love either. I'm not into marshmallow, but adding chocolate and graham cracker makes up for that. Vanilla cake is a good clean flavor, but no chocolate and no citrus. I think I'll go with s'mores.

Apple Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream on Top vs. Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

I like apple cobbler ala mode. I love chocolate chip ice cream. The combo of vanilla with enough chocolate for flavor but not too much to overpower the vanilla is a winner. I'll go with the chocolate chip.

Apple Pie (no ice cream) vs. Panna Cotta

I had to look up panna cotta, and it seems like another variant on flan or creme brulee. Gimme a piece of all-American apple pie instead.

Brownie with vanilla ice cream (with nuts) vs. Mel I Mato

I'm not into nuts in my dessert, and the mel i mato looks interesting, but I don't like ricotta cheese much at all. I'll go with the brownie and will tolerate the nuts.

I would just put the chocolate chip ice cream on with the rest of the ice cream already on the cobbler.

Chocolate Swirl Cheesecake - in a tossup

S'mores - My memories of s'mores all involve messiness which I'm not a fan of, but that's the only part of s'mores that I don't like

Chocolate chip ice cream - another close call

Panna cotta - I've never tasted it, but it sounds good and I'd like to try it.

Brownie with Vanilla ice cream (with nuts) - Much better with nuts. This one is a winner for me.

Plain cheesecake is the best anyway.

I'm going to lobby for Mel i Mato here...

It's a badass dessert... it is NOT made from ricotta cheese it is made from a Catalan cheese called MATO which is hard to describe but would be like taking cream cheese and mixing it with ricotta cheese...

so you have a slightly sweet, slightly creamy cheese topped with walnuts (sometimes candied walnuts) with honey drizzled over it all.

Banana cheesecake, vanilla cake (in a heartbreaker), chocolate chip ice cream, panna cotta, and mel i mato take the loss.
