Late night bullshit: that sinking feeling...

Anybody else getting that sinking feeling that we're in for a really disappointing season?

Maybe it's just me.

I fear that Cassel's going to regress -- which, with the assistance of Zorn, means it will officially need be Priority A1 to get a new QB to groom behind him for 2012. (If not Stanzi.)

I fear Jones and McClain are going to give us no push in the run game, and Charles will have to generate the entire run game on his own.

I fear the WR corps is exactly where it was before our playoff game last year, where we've got Bowe and a handful of people we're plugging in and praying they don't suck.

I fear our nose tackle position could fall through halfway through the season, as Gregg wears down and Powe's not ready.

I fear that the coaching staff is going to handcuff themselves to Studebaker all season and give Houston/Sheffield limited snaps.

And of course, I fear the 2012 offseason which will greatly challenge this team for all the talent up for new contracts.

I fear a 6-10 season. At this point I have said that I believe an 8-8 season can be considered progress with our schedule this year. I think we'll be lucky to get there.

Am I the only one here?

Yeah, a little. Hoping that "it's just preseason" to some extent, though it is indeed...just preseason.

If Jones was used correctly and NOT pitched to - he'd at least be a LITTLE more effective.

Here's a stupid thought that doesn't deserve it's own thread, so it's going in here:

Cassel tanks in 2011.

No QBs that Pioli likes in the 2012 draft.

Matt Flynn is on the Pack's trade block.

Chiefs trade a 2nd for Matt Flynn.

Making Flynn the second 7th round QB who played behind an All Pro QB in an insanely talented offense to play for the Chiefs.

Who knows.

There's no way the Flynn experiment could go any worse than the Cassel experiment will have at that point.

I think we'll be good. Our defense is going to be great, and our O should be more balanced.

If things go poorly and we suck, adios Cassel. In the long term that's a win. If we do well and he takes a big step forward, we win.

The worst thing that could happen is that we're ok, and Cassel is ok, and we do just well enough to stand pat. #sadface

When I look at the team besides the QB I get excited. But sadly you need better than average QB play to be taken seriously in the NFL. I hope Zorn taps Cassel with his QB wand and turns him into Aaron Rodgers lol.

Oh, I get the feeling all the time. Realistically, Cassel, Bowe, AND Charles will both regress this next season. Not saying that's a cause for concern, as we all know Charles broke a record (or tied, can't remember), Bowe led all WRs in TDs, and Cassel was something like +20 TD/INT. Although their numbers won't be as sexy, they could still carry us to victory with solid to above average stat lines.

I expect the offense to take a step back, but the defense to take a leap forward. Maybe throw in a bit of luck for Matty and the boys.. That's keeping me optimistic.

This team is talented enough to play with anyone. Yeah, Cassel's a limp dick, but that hasn't stopped the offense from being productive for the most part. They should be able to win 8 or 9 games, if that's disappointing to you, so be it.

Basically you picked the weakest/riskiest parts of our roster and assumed they would all fail.

We're going to hit on some. Whether it be Justin Houston, Matt Cassel, Tyson Jackson, Jared Gaither, doesn't matter. Some things will go well. Some will not.

To just make a long list of things that could go wrong is getting worked up over nothing. It is a highly unlikely outcome. It is... illogical.
