Retread coaches are hot.
The coaching search just kills me. I'm watching NFL Network, and the names they're talking about are Jeff Fisher, Mike Mularkey, Wade Phillips, Brad Childress, and of course Romeo Crennel for the various openings.

Jeff Fisher and Wade Phillips had years to prove themselves and didn't. What kind of team hires a coach like that? Fisher had 15+ years in Tennessee and never got it done. Phillips has blundered through 8 or 9 head coaching gigs, I think. All of the other guys have gloriously led teams to 5-11 records as well. I realize I have to back Crennel now, and at least the last three may have a chance of succeeding if they just caught bad breaks in their short stints. But the great coaches have historically turned their teams around by the four year mark.

Jeez, come on. Try to hire the next Lombardi or Landry or Shula if you're an owner. Whoever hires Jeff Fisher or Wade Phillips is openly admitting that they aspire to mediocrity.

Or that they just don't actually know what to look for in a coach so they'd rather go for a guy that has experience and that they know isn't a total failure.
