Calvin Pryor – Safety

Pryor is a third-year junior and has been starting since his freshman year. He is a big, physical safety who loves to hit and throw his body around. His estimated size is 6’2 -210, and he has very good play speed. I would estimate his speed at 4.48. To go along with size and speed, Pryor is a very good athlete. He can change direction, plays with bend, and has a smooth turn. He shows he has a quick and low back pedal and can come out of his pedal and break on the ball without wasted steps.

Depending on the defense called, Pryor can be lined up both deep or near the line of scrimmage. He is an instinctive, quick reacting player who almost always seems to be in the right position. He is very good in run support, reacting quickly and being physical. He comes up and does a very good job getting rid of blocks and is an excellent tackler. He is one of the more explosive tacklers I have seen this year. Pryor is a top competitor who consistently chases the ball and always takes good angles.

In coverage, you don’t see him in man coverage much, but he is a very good zone player who does an excellent job picking up receivers crossing into his zone. He has excellent range to get to the sideline and help out over the top. His awareness is usually very good, but I did see him blow a coverage in one game where he was late reacting to a receiver breaking deep. Other than that play, his reactions have been good. While you don’t see him play man-to-man coverage, he has the tools to be a very good man-cover player. You see his hips and turn ability while in zone.

Pryor is one of the better safeties I have seen this year. He has the tools to be a top NFL safety and can play either strong or free. He has excellent size and can be a violent hitter. I see him as a starter his rookie year. A very solid “A” level player who should be drafted high.

He's my favorite right now for the number one pick but he needs to run well at the combine to verify he is worthy. CBS's current mock has him going in the first to Denver. I want this guy.

He's better than Ha Ha. That play in the UCF game was his best play of the year but that's not even what sells me. Watch him against Rutgers. He's a badass in that game.

Good player. Would rather see a veteran picked up in FA to help settle the secondary. Chris Clemons from Miami would be a great pick up if he hits FA like most expect. Reid likes the big boys in Round 1. Look for Stephon Tuitt to be a Chief if he's still on the board.

I think Tuitt will rise like Richardson did and go in the top 15. Not very many prospects like him this year.

Dix is very fast with very fluid hips and can cover exceptionally well. He's not a consummate big hitter, but he's always in position and has the athletic ability to cover ground in a zone.

For what the Chiefs require and what they currently have on the roster, Dix is a much better option than Pryor, who is more of a poor man's Eric Berry than a true NFL level free safety.

I disagree. Watching the LSU and A&M tape, Dix was too late too often. Late to recognize the run and come in support, late with help over the top, allowing Evans to eat the Bama defense up deep, was easily boxed out by Evans on another deep pass (how is he going to handle even bigger TEs if he's letting a Wr do it to him), beat inside pretty badly by the LSU FB, is easily blocked, not much of a hitter, whiffs on too many tackles, etc. He honestly looks like he would be no better than Lewis.

Nope, not that I can think of. Kirkpatrick has been a bust, couldn't even get on the field until injuries occured in their secondary. Barron has been a non-factor in the league. Largely been busts, it's Alabama's front 7 that is good, not their secondary.

I count Julio Jones and Marcel Dareus. That's it.

Hightower has been average. Milliner had a good last few games. Lacy and Ingram both had quality seasons.

That's all I can come up with.

Ha ha? Last thing the chiefs can afford is to get another saftey that doesnt pan out. They need to make sure they do their homework. I think it's a bad sign when a draft picks name laughs at you. It's like drafting someone named lol.

Next to Poe? Shit, other offenses may change the game plan to let Tamba come free and get the ball out before he gets to the QB, double Poe, double Dareus and put a guy on Houston.
