What about our young CB's?

Yesterday everyone was going nuts over Breeland not signing and I just wonder, are we underestimating our young corners? Today one of the best corner's in the league is actually a guy who went undrafted in AJ Bouye, so what if we got lucky and with one of these youngers?

1. Tremon Smith

2. Arrion Springs

3. Keith Reaser

4. Will Redmond

5. D'Montre Wade

6. Makinton Dorleant

7. Ashton Lampkin

8. Step Durham

Can any of these stand up and make a claim to be a starter next season or at least get a decent amount of snaps? Tremon is six foot with rapid speed and an interception machine, Springs is apparently turning heads in camp whilst Reaser got snaps last season and Redmon is a former third-round pick who had a lot of potential before getting injured.

Surely one of these can make a difference for us next season? Or is that asking too much? I'm actually looking forward to seeing how these guys do in the pre-season games tbh as that will give us a glimpse into what they are all about.

We aren't underestimating them or overestimating them. We are not estimating them at all. We know nothing about them based on anything remotely relevant. Wait until a few preseason games in and we'll see.

Pretty much that.

They have to show us something worth talking about.

Of those guys listed that were on the roster last pre-season, none of them stood out to me.

Redmond has the most promise to be a valuable CB, but he has an injury history worse than Philip Gaines.

Wade and Springs are both rookies, and for now I'd shelve them both as, "Interesting guys to watch in preseason 4th quarters, but not enough to give a shit about as of this year"

Reaser has actual starting experience with the 49ers and played okay in his start for us last year in Week 17. He would be a pretty good guy to keep around as the 4th or 5th CB on the team.

The guy with the highest ceiling by far is Tremon Smith. Hell, I'm not thinking it's totally out of the question for him to bump Amerson as the second starting CB. Will he? Probably not. I'm betting he makes the 53, though.

The other guys I have no clue about. They're probably a bunch of Vince Agnew bastards.

The whole bunch looks like one big gamble.

If Veach doesn't sign Breeland, he has to watch the CBs carefully during training camp and preseason and be ready to trade a pick for a CB if he doesn't see clear signs that one of them looks to be a gem as soon as this year.

Nobody knows for sure, but I'd say the consensus is that none of the young CBs are at Breelands' level. Very unusual to have a legit starter showing up at your doorstep as a FA in late July. Especially in a perceived area of need. Hence all the angst and anticipation. (My 2 cents.)

Redmond intrigues me- was always a fairly sought after recruit and was drafted in the 3rd round. Redmond was projected to go even higher (1st- 2nd round I believe) but his career has been derailed by injuries so far.

The only thing that does give me some peace of mind is that both Reaser and Redmond have been on the practice squad for a considerable amount of time. The Chiefs staff including Veach should have somewhat of an idea of what these two guys can potentially bring. Does the Chiefs courting Breeland mean that they still aren't happy with what they have, or were they simply trying to get a decent veteran at a good price? Not too sure.

Tremon Smith also seems like a potential late round steal but I'd be really surprised if he steps up and is ready for NFL action so early in his career.

I personally think Veach made a huge mistake ignoring the position as much as he did, but I hope I'm wrong.

So Fuller spent a bunch of time working on his technique and that focus was a big reason he looked so good last year. I'm hoping that focus rubs off on the other young guys and he can help them on their technique as well. That's where he'll be a big difference maker that Peters wasn't. He's a guy that can be a leader of this group and help with their development.
