Mexico City

So, it's not really about the Chiefs game (though this might help someone who is going) but I'm kicking around the idea of going to Mexico City this fall. Anyone been either for the cluster last year or otherwise, and if so, tell me about your experience.

TO CLARIFY, I AM NOT GOING FOR THE GAME.

Would love to go. I think it is ridiculous that social pressure forced them to cancel the game there. They say it was about player safety. Oh really, if it was about player safety they wouldn't let them play on baseball fields in Oakland. They could have had the field level and ready very easily, it just wouldn't have grass on all areas of it - like a baseball field.

Drink only bottled water, the wrath of Montezuma's revenge is no joke you don't want to be at the game when it hits.

I have a feeling their facilities aren't up to American standards.

Two things here:

1. Is Montezuma's revenge better or worse than say a night of drinking followed by gorging yourself on Taco Bell?

2. I think stadium bathrooms are likely some of the most unsanitary places on earth. Do you think Mexican bathrooms are actually that much worse?

I went last year. Had an awesome time. We ran through 10 bottles of tequila during our 5 day stay.

Time of our life. Great trip. Great experiences. So-So night life. Stayed in an airbnb (hate hotels when traveling). City was safe. Walked at 3am around town. Stayed in the Zona Rosa/Jaruez district.
Download google translate on your phone and everything is a breeze with communication. Can't stress that enough. Rule of thumb given to me by a local uber driver, "Never go more than there blocks off the beaten paths".

We went EVERYWHERE imaginable via uber and I only spent $62 the entire trip. Don't waste your time in restaurants. The street tacos are the best thing going.

I go to CDMX pretty regularly for work. It is a blast! Imagine Manhattan (NY, not KS) dropped on top of San Jose (surrounded by mountains), with some border town MX sprinkled in here and there. There are nineteen MILLION inhabitants of the city. It is a big place with tons to do.

Weather is usually really nice year round, but especially nice in winter.

Altitude sickness will hit you after a few days so be prepared for that. Depending on the weather, smog may make you feel a bit shitty too. If it rains prior to or during your trip, no smog worries.

People are friendly, and most restaurants and pretty much all of the hotels speak English. Your Uber drivers may or may not, so learn a few phrases in Spanish if you are not already fluent.

Speaking of Uber, use it! It is CHEAP in CDMX... like $10 to go from the airport to Santa Fe District (that can be a 1-2hr drive, depending on the traffic). DO NOT, for the love of all that is holy, DRIVE in CDMX unless you are insane. This is, by far, the worst non war-zone traffic on the planet.

I typically stay in Santa Fe, CDMX, or Polanco (like the Rodeo Drive/Beverly Hills of CDMX).

People are friendly, but it is a big city, so stick to the areas you know... don't go exploring without some guidance. Polanco and Santa Fe are fine - lots of money there & therefore a lot of security, but there are rough areas in CDMX too. Often those rough areas are adjacent to the nice ones, so be prudent. Best to have friends with you, esp locals.

Can you at least have the respect to at least spell out CDMX once before breaking into a litany of acronyms?

CDMX is the accepted name. Ciudad De Mexcio. It's like calling Kansas City KC.
