If you unretire one of them, you unretire all of them.

Stone Johnson for me is the most obvious. If I was just picking one.

There is a definite argument for that, but I was thinking more along the lines of most if not all of their career and a HOF player then their number could stay retired.

Retired numbers are dumb except for extremely rare circumstances.
I think it's fair to say #58 should never be worn by a Chief again considering DT being the best player in franchise history combined with the circumstances surrounding his death. Every other number should be fair game IMO. |

Only numbers that should be retired are Len Dawson, Bobby Bell, Willie Lanier, Derrick Thomas, Buck Buchanan and Patrick Mahomes.

The only people that should have their numbers retired are HOF players. Death doesn't = retired number
You're telling me someone can't wear number 33 because Stone Johnson, a rookie that died in training camp wore it. Death doesn't mean retired number. 33 Stone Johnson 36 Mack Lee Hill Those 2 did not earn shit |

Jan Stenerud. He was only a kicker.

Numbers should be honored, but not retired.
1. You run out of numbers by retiring them. 2. I think it helps you remember the player by seeing the jersey number worn again. 3. We have the Ring of Honor with the number which helps us remember. 4. Hopefully there are many more years for the NFL and many more great players to come. Some new great player may want to wear #18 or #63, maybe even to proudly represent that past player. 5. Players that we want to remember, we always will, even though another player wears the number. I would have voted to unretire them all, but always pay them honor and that number is not just given out for for 3rd string probable camp cut. |

My pick. Also chocked the Miami double overtime game away.

Plenty of ways to honor players. NO numbers should be retired.
The league will soon be 18 games. Rosters will be expanded and the need for numbers will only increase. The rosters are at 90 before the cut down to 53 already. It will easily be 100 pretty soon. Unless we want to see multiple numbers for players all the time, this needs to happen. |
