I know its really popular with draft nerds but i just dont see him trading down unless it nets a good pick next year. We have so many picks.

For sure. That's why I traded down, and then traded back up. I could snagging some pics for next year instead of stockpiling this year to use to trade up. Personally I like the idea of having some solid rookies on cheap contracts instead of always kicking the tires on former first rounders that never pan out

No. We need to take the BPA when we pick. Trading down decreases the level of player.

That's the dumbest take I've heard yet. Because no first round draft pick has ever busted. And no QB taken in the 6th has ever gone on to do anything. Tyreek Hill was taken #1 overall, right? You've been playing too much Madden or something.

My thought on trading down is that it's more of a thing a team does when it's trying to fix depth issues and doesn't have the picks to do it.
In my opinion, KC has problems with starter-caliber talent at a couple of key positions and not depth issues. Currently, the Chiefs have the picks to make this a depth draft. I mean, 5 picks by 103 is more than a reasonable amount to add talent to the roster. I don't think acquiring more capital is necessary. I'm not in favor of lessening the position to load up on even more B and C-level talents. I'm highly in favor of trying to get couple A-level talents, which likely means going the opposite direction. I'd also offer my opinion that you're over-drafting Williams and Clark and severely under-drafting Raimann and Jones. Ojabo I think goes much later too, but we'll see. Honestly, I think this would be a more reasonable order: 35. Jones, DT 38. Raimann, OT 43. Watson, WR 58. Williams, DE 64. Ojabo, DE (I think pundits are way overrating where he'll end up. He tore his f'n Achilles, not an ACL. It's an enormous chance. I still think this may be too early but you got 87 picks in the top 100, may as well swing one). 94. McCollum, CB 97. Armour-Davis, CB 103. ?? 104. Cross, SS 188. Chandler, RB or Austin, WR 233. Clark, LB (he had spinal fusion and is out of 2022, someone probably drafts him just to stash him but it sure as shit isn't going to be a 3rd round pick when he was tabbed a late 2 to 3 to start with) 259. Nelson, SS (probably a PFA) |

If we pkg picks to trade up from #29, I'd be interested in trading down from #30 potentially. But currently, we're tied with the most picks in this draft and have a SuperBowl-ready team.

The winner of this draft will be the team with the most picks in the middle rounds. I honestly think we are sitting in the catbird seat and trading back to add an additional pick or 3 before the end of the 4th would be amazing unless there’s a top end guy that falls to us. Most mocks I’ve ran have the best results after trading back with both picks. |

Veach has never traded down and I severely doubt he will now. As Nate Taylor said there aren’t 12 spots on the roster.
He’s gonna be moving up into the pockets he sees with talent.

I agree. He has specifically talked about the defensive line, which he's hardly addressed at all in the offseason. Retaining Clark and Nnadi and signing Taylor Stallworth are blah moves. He's going to go for some juice. I think anyone wanting or expecting him to stay at 29 and 30 are going to be disappointed. I won't be disappointed if he stands pat, but I 100% expect he's moving up off of 29.

Trading up from 29 allows us to get one of the top 2 or 3 DEs or WRs or S, whichever Veach targets. Then trading down from 30 allows us to recoup the draft capital we used to go up. Also gaining some picks in the sweet spot of this draft in rounds 2-4. Seems brilliant to me. Like many have said, I wont be disappointed in whatever they do. I trust Veach and this is twice as many picks as hes ever had going into a draft. Its going to be a FUN draft! |

The Chiefs best players have come from the 3rd round (and lower)...Charles, Houston, Kelce, Hill....Creed was a late 2nd, Sneed (4th), T. Smith was a 5th.
It's people's natural inclination to assume the higher pick, the better the player. It hasn't been the case in with KC. One thing that doesn't get talked about is Reid and Spagnuolo have very specific schemes...which make identifying player fits a bit easier. Veach has been with Reid for years and was an ex-scout. They also have superior position coaches which aides in development. All three AFCW teams have either a first year staff which is just learning their rosters..or a 2nd year (LA). I dont follow the draft like most of you...but the consensus is it's a deep draft but light at the top. Chiefs moving back would allow BV to maneuver around the 2nd-4th to get specific players. There are FA WRs that can help KC after the draft...Watkins, Landry, Fuller. They shouldn't move up unless they think the player is a no-miss star. Watkins is an interesting play...as he already knows the system and should be fairly cheap. There arent any veteran Wrs in that group right now.. Is it a coincidence that the two highest paid WRs just happened to come from teams with the 2 best QBs? Take the BPA...build your future team. Chiefs have almost 2 full drafts this year...it's a rare opportunity to leave their division in the dust. Raiders/Donks dont have draft capital..all three have QB contracts coming due. This team has 22 players under contract in 2023 and that number is counting Frank Clark. We also only have 39m in cap space and that’s without Orlando Brown Mecole Hardman Juju Thornhill Townsend Fenton I can’t remember who suggested it, but I like the idea of moving up with one of the firsts and a pick next year and moving down with the other first so we can add another mid rounder this year. I’d be plenty ok moving down with BOTH firsts, too. Especially if we can add a couple more third rounders in the process…even if those picks are in next years draft. Do that and hope Frank Clark destroys worlds this year so he has trade value next offseason and this team will stay in the catbird seat. |

If they trade back, it almost has to be for 2023 draft picks. |

I will say that I would absolute trade down from 30 if a team wants to come up for a QB. I’d do that in a heartbeat bc they always overpay
