Double dipping?

I know there is a lot of talk about double dipping at EDGE and WR, but would you be willing to double dip at CB, IDL, or any other positions? If so what positions?

VARSITY
If the board does not fall in our favor (all edges & wr's gone early, with 1 or 2 DT's gone), I could potentially see us going CB/Safety to shore up the secondary.

But I don't see it working out that way.

CB is probably the only other position I would consider double dipping, and that’s if they don’t get one early.

I had IDL and corner opportunities several times in a row this morning, just got the gears turning wondering what more well rounded draftubators thought.

Double dip where? First 4 picks? Entire draft? After watching the D get carved up in the playoffs, I'm fine replacing/upgrading just about anyone.

If Wyatt fell and KC grabbed him in the first and then someone like Winfrey is available at the end of the 3rd, sure. If they both pan out, you aren't tied to Jones and a ridiculous contract.

If Booth or Elam fall in the first, I'd have no problem taking one. Fenton has had a string of injuries already and they lost Ward.

Do you consider "double-dipping" to be two in the same draft? Or two in the top 100 picks? Or two in the same round?

I will be disappointed if the Chiefs don't take two DEs, overall. Probably be disappointed if at least one of those DEs isn't a top 50 pick. Other than that, I've got my preferences but I'm not going to argue with the organization that goes to the Championship game every year.

If we come out of this draft with
2 edge
2 WR or 1 WR and McBride
2 corners
1 safety
1 LB
2 DTs
And a back with juice like Strong or Cook

This team will be ready to have a real chance to not need a significant FA investment in the next 2 years for a NEED.

Gotta look at this draft through a 2-3 year window, I think.

You have to estimate that Veach is going to whiff on 50% though. That's just how things tend to go in the NFL. You hope he hits on the firsts and seconds and stir in a couple others that are at least solid contributors. This team will still have needs, pretty much guaranteed.

I should have been more specific. Double dipping in the first 4 rounds. 5/6/7 I consider pretty random because of the talent pool. But i guess round 5 could be fringe.

If they don't get 2 DE in this draft then it's a monumental failure of all involved. They have one of the worst lines I've seen as a Chiefs fan. ZERO DE"s worth a damn. Neither of our starters would start on another team. They could get away with just drafting an X WR and hoping it hits if they draft him high.

Quarterbacks (2) - Patrick Mahomes, Chad Henne, and Shane Buechele.
Might draft one late but probably a UDFA.

Running backs (5) - Michael Burton, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Ronald Jones II, Derrick Gore, and Brendon Knox.
Probably draft one in middle to late round.

Wide receivers (6) - Mecole Hardman, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Corey Coleman, Josh Gordon, Gehrig Dieter, Daurice Fountain, Cornell Powell, Chris Finke, Justin Watson, Omar Bayless, Mathew Sexton, and Gary Jennings.
Very Probable to draft at least one and probably two.

Tight Ends (3) - Noah Gray, Travis Kelce, Jody Fortson (?PUP), Blake Bell, Nakia Griffin-Stewart, Mark Vital, Jordan Franks, Josh Pederson, and Matt Bushman
If a very good one fell, maybe. Really don't know what they have in the last 5 guys in the list.

Offensive Linemen (10) - Nick Allegretti, Orlando Brown Jr, Creed Humphrey, Lucas Niang (PUP), Trey Smith, Prince Tega Wanogho, Joe Thuney, Andrew Wylie, Geron Christian, Darryl Williams, Roderick Johnson, and Austin Reiter.
Probably one to compete at RT and maybe one with a 7th round pick.

Defensive linemen (9)
DEs - Frank Clark, Mike Danna, Joshua Kaindoh, Malik Herring, Jonathan Woodard, and Austin Edwards
DTs - Chris Jones, Khalen Saunders, Tershawn Wharton, Derrick Nnadi, Cortez Broughton, , Lorenzo Neal Jr, Darius Stills, and Taylor Stallworth.
Probably two and maybe three with two DEs and one DT.

Linebackers (5) - Nick Bolton, Willie Gay Jr, Elijah Lee, Jermaine Carter Jr, Darius Harris, and Shilique Calhoun
Probably one in the middle to 7th round.

Defensive backs (10) -
CB – Deandre Baker, Rashad Fenton, L'Jarius Sneed, Luq Barcoo, Dicaprio Bootle, and Brandin Dandridge
S - Zayne Anderson, Juan Thornhill, Justin Reid, Devon Key, and Deon Bush.
Probably two and maybe three with two CBs and one S.

Special teams (3) – K Harrison Butker, P Tommy Townsend, and LS James Winchester.
Maybe a 7th rounder but more likely a UDFA punter to add a camp challenge

Double dipping at Edge is almost necessary. Possibly you could get away with a DT and an Edge.

If Ojabo falls to you, you almost have to take him, and then it means you almost have to take a S.Williams/Thomas/Jackson in the second.

Personally, I'm for the whole 'lets take an area of weakness and make it a strength' plan as opposed to 'let's patch a hole'.

Give me two Edges and two WR's in the first four picks assuming the board falls in such a way that it's reasonable because then I can just go BPA the rest of the way.

If all 4 hit, you're set at expensive positions for the next several years. If 50% hit, you're in good shape, and probably have at least some good depth.
