Draft Day Discounts?

Who's falling in the draft due to injury or character concern that the Chiefs can nab on a discount?

DE Ojabo, achilles at pro day. He was previously slated as a top 20 guy.

DE S Williams, Sexual Assualt Accusation. Had 12.5 sacks last year at Ole Miss and was drafted in the 4th round on ESPN's 7-RD mock.

LB D Clark, Spinal Fusion. Was previously an early to mid Round 2 projection.

WR Justyn Ross, Spinal Fusion & Foot. I've seen him called a top 20 player prior to the injury.

WR George Pickens, probably out of the 1st due to injury history but his stock is remaining much stronger than Ross'.

Another one to keep an eye on is age. A handful of guys are getting knocked because they are already 23 or 24. We used that value to take guys like Kelce and Thornhill in the past and I expect that to be the reason we get a player to fall to us that most don’t expect.

Injuries always slide guys a bit. Here's some more with some concerns that have to be vetted and could explain if they do fall or are already project to (not all were serious):
CB Derek Stingley Jr, WR Jameson Williams, CB Andrew Booth Jr, DT DeMarvin Leal (and off-field), WR John Metchie III, QB Carson Strong, CB Jalyn Armour-Davis, RB Zamir White, RB Abram Smith, WR Jalen Nailor, TE Jelani Woods, TE James Mitchell, TE Chig Okonkwo, OT Rasheed Walker, OT Kellen Diesch, OT Matt Waletzko, OG Justin Shaffer, OT Zach Thomas, DE Travon Walker, DE Logan Hall, DE Drake Jackson, DE Josh Paschal, DE Cameron Thomas, DE Alex Wright, DE Christopher Allen, DE Tyreke Smith, DE Jeffrey Gunter, DT Neil Farrell Jr., DT Kalia Davis, DT Noah Elliss, DT Marquan McCall, DT D.J. Davison, LB Troy Anderson, LB JoJo Domann, LB Terrel Bernard, LB Mike Rose, LB Jeremiah Gemmel, LB Aaron Hansford, LB Baylon Spector, LB Jeremiah Moon, LB Jake Hansen, CB Cam Taylor-Britt, CB Marcus Jones, CB Akayleb Evans, CB Josh Jobe, CB Mario Goodrich, CB Isaac Taylor-Stewart, S Percy Butler, S Delarrin Turner-Yell, S Quentin Lake

As far as additions to off-the-field/maturity I'm aware of: OT Dare Rosenthal, OG Ed Ingram, DE Jesse Luketa, DE Isaiah Thomas, DE Michael Clemons, DE Tre Wiliams, DE Adam Anderson, DT Devonte Wyatt, S Bubba Bolden

Age probably won't factor in much given that there are so many 23 or older. Maybe the guys that are pushing or over 25, which includes OT B. Raimann, LB J. Domann and WR V. Jones are going to be relatively cheap I think.

Here's a pretty good list of those 23+ (rounded of course)

Spoiler!

lol Dang Crow! That's a very complete list, thank you!

Chiefs always seem open to drafting guys like this that fall for a discount.

Some are definitely buyer beware. For example, a big reason I've fallen off of Cam Thomas in mocks isn't that I don't like his play (I very much do), it's because of the back injury he had (four fractured vertebrae in 2018). Will it be an issue going forward? Perhaps not, but it's there and you have to think about arthritis and its long-term effects. Would I still draft him? Yes because he's been able to play at a higher level since then. That said, you have to think he might be there in the late 3rd.

He's definitely been sliding recently, used to be considered a late 1st now I see him being drafted in the 3rd.

Anyone know why WR Romeo Doubs is falling? I used to see him listed as a round 2 guy now much later.

I think just because others tested better.

Guys like Doubs are good value picks because the tape doesn't lie, but sometimes the combine numbers DO.

Man, I doubt he lasts that long. The only question I would have is the back injury, but as you said, he's played at a high level since.

I'd love him in the second round. That's a great value pick at a need position and worth the risk, in my opinion.

I'm all for grabbing guys that fall on a discount.

Seems to me these guys are super young, they'll bounce back from injuries.

WR Romeo Doubs at 6-2, 200 pounds - Real good stats with 4 years, 43 games, 225 Rec, 3,322 yards, 26 TDs.

BUT 4.72 40 time has really dropped him.

Another WR that has similar issue.

WR Tay Martin, Oklahoma State & Washington State, 6-3, 186, 53 games, 238 Rec, 2810 yards, and 28 TDs. Watch the 2021 OU game, the Fiesta Bowl, and the East West Shrine game and you can see his talent.

BUT 4.68 and 4.59 40 time will also drop him in the draft.

Sometimes players are discounted because of size.

I really like ILB Malcolm Rodriguez, Oklahoma State.

He is 5-11, 232 pounds, runs the 40 in 4.52

At Oklahoma State he has played 5 seasons, 56 games, 408 tackles. Last year he had 129 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 int, 4 PD.

Watch some of the Oklahoma State games and you will see him all over the field making tackles.

Yet he only got a NFLPA Collegiate Bowl game invite, and most media draft evaluations have him as maybe a 6th round draft pick.

I think he would be an excellent player for the Chiefs with special teams, filling in when needed, and maybe even starting.

Adam Anderson. Probably top 10 talent, facing significant issues off the field that may prevent him from being drafted. On the other hand, when you have all of the 7th round picks... Maybe you take a guy like that on the off chance he is innocent.

Adam Anderson - Boy that would be a tough one. He had 17 NFL teams at his workout though, so someone still has hope.

I would do some serious investigation on that because it could be a PR nightmare dealing with a rape case for an NFL team.

Besides we already have our "secret" weapon from Georgia in Malik Herring and he is 40 pounds bigger than Anderson.

You can really see how talented Georgia was when you consider the fact that in 2020, they had Jermaine Johnson II and then for part of 2021 they had Adam Anderson and he had 5 sacks at the time of his dismissal.
